NY Times article suggests that intelligence overrides work ethic

Pizzagirl, did you see the special on John Lennon and Ono when they were living in NY? I think it has shown twice on TV and is probably online. It might give you a different perspective of him.

A Working Class Hero is one of my favorite songs, too, and Mother, from the same album I think.

Yes, I have seen it, thanks. I’ve read several bios as well, including that from Cynthia Lennon, who I have a lot of sympathy for. Honestly, my reaction to John Lennon is mostly one of sadness, because there really was so much potential. How can someone not listen to Julia or Mother and realize the depth of the pain this man carried around.

Hunt - I agree, generally speaking, that Paul solo < Paul Beatles. Having said that, what’s wrong with silly love songs :-). I can still enjoy things like “Listen What the Man Said” and “With a Little Luck” even if they are poppy – the man writes infectious stuff, that’s for sure. “Here Today” (the tribute to John) is very nice and very moving. On the more rock side of things, I might suggest “Beware My Love” (it has a slow build) or “Monkberry Moon Delight.” More recently, I’ve liked “I’ve Only Got Two Hands” (instrumental), “That Was Me” and “Jenny Wren” (which is in the vein of the “Yesterday,” “Blackbird” type of ballad). I agree that there was some crap in there, like “Goodnight Tonight,” “Coming Up” and “So Bad.” And for all that money, he really needed a better hairdresser throughout most of the '70’s and '80’s. Even Paul can’t rock a mullet, LOL.

Beatles will stay forever and it is good enough in my mind for genius label. Would Mozart be genius if nobody knew his music now? I do not think so.
