NY Times: ‘We Were Helpless’: Despair at the C.D.C. as the Pandemic Erupted

Seems very coincidental this article is published almost simultaneously with congress and Biden approving declassification of COVID 19 info. CYA all the way.

@vpa2019 do you think there’s a conspiracy between the NY Times and the Biden administration? Please read the article.

I did read the article. I think it’s a CDC CYA, told through the typical NYT lens of “everything is the Trump administration’s fault” but it has nothing to do with the Biden administration.

I think they’re anticipating some less than flattering info will be disclosed from the declassification. What other reason to run this article now? It’s pretty old news since it happened 3 years ago. Just MO.

Obviously very political, but ignoring that…

The article talks about the desire to get the message out about asymptomatic spread, and supposedly being silenced, as though everything would have been better and gone smoother if that one piece of information they had worked so hard to get would have been a game changer.

Asymptomatic spread means nothing to the masses. It means nothing now, and would have meant nothing then. The article even cites the public warning of asymptomatic spread by the CDC director on March 30, 2020, after the country had already been shut down (and protected from asymptomatic spread) for 3 weeks. So nothing after March 30 matters.

I appreciate the gifted article. Thank you.
