Hi guys, anxious senior looking for college next fall.
NYU and columbia both in NYC, both are awesome shools i know: one is ivy brand the other is 2nd ranked program in finance in the country.
Which one you will choose that will give you more round opportunities to break into the Street as well as the industry?
Thanks

Wow, that’s quite a tough decision to make. I’d probably take the NYU-Stern offer.

Columbia hands down. Finance rankings mean nothing.

@Yet: Are you even sure what you are saying?

Columbia. It has an overall better reputation. All the recruiters that go to Stern will go to Columbia as well.

Columbia. 10 char

Columbia, easily.

Yet is absolutely correct. Columbia. Finance rankings mean nothing.

Columbia would be my choice.

Well, I wonder which school between Stern and Columbia has the higher proportion of students that got into top finance and banking jobs.

^ I’d guess that a much larger proportion of Stern kids are interested in finance/banking, so that comparison wouldn’t really be useful.

Although more Stern kids may be interested in finance, I have no doubt that still more Columbia kids get into high banking and finance jobs.

@demoz: More Columbia kids get into than Stern kids for IB?

Is that even possible? how can 2 departments get into IB more than the whole school?

To me, this is like comparing Wharton and Harvard. For sure Harvard is the superior university. But in terms of ratio and proportion, I guess no one would argue that Wharton performs better than Harvard on WS placement.

Columbia is superior to NYU. But we’re not talking about the whole of NYU here, just the best college of that university - Stern. So this becomes Columbia vs Stern as the better feeder school to WS jobs.

Columbia no contest.

The OP has already made his/her decision about NYU vs Columbia. He/she just needs someone to say that “Stern is better than Columbia” to feel better.
So, there you go!

Guys, I have a question about NYU. Can you explain me one thing about NYU Stern? Here is the link:

[NYU > Office of the Bursar > Tuition/Fees > Fall and Spring > Leonard N. Stern School of Business (Undergraduate)](Tuition)

Is that for just a one semester? If that is, so it means that the total is 22,334 $ per semester, which is 44,668$ per year. If I am a NY resident and I don’t need dorms, the price could be lower?

tuition without room and board is roughly 37k for one year not including fees and other stuff so it gets to be close to 40k

Since you will be commuting you also have to account for commuting costs and at least lunch as well
