NYTimes Article

Did anyone read the New York Times article about underrated colleges? Was Whitman's description adequate? Thoughts?

The description was weak at best. In addition, Newsweek just came out with an article describing the 25 new "ivies," yet failed to mention Whitman. I'm biased, of course, but I thought Whitman and Grinnell deserved to be one of the 25. In my opinion, Whitman often gets shortchanged because it's on the West Coast, whereas many of these news organizations are located in the East.

This is Washington Monthly's 2006 College Rankings:

It's much different from U.S. News and World Report, to say the least. Sorry to clog the board.

Thanks for the Washington article! Great. What's up with US News? Looks like Washington and Princeton Review are the only ones who know a great school. (Our family loves Bryn Mawr as well...). We can not say enough good things about Whitman. Very underated. An east coast thing, I guess. While visiting eastern colleges this summer with d #2 and hearing about students looking at Reed, I strongly urged them to also look at Whitman. I'm originally a New Englander (now western Canada) and was sure all of my D's would attend eastern colleges. Whitman is certainly up there with the best of the eastern LAC's.
