will it be easier to be accepted into NYU now due to the coronavirus? Also, will they be looking for students who do not need financial aid?
@katherinerose14 - that’s an interesting question and I don’t think anyone knows for sure how covid-19 will affect the popularity of NYC schools in the coming years. NYU’s acceptance rate has been getting really low and they do accept a lot of international students - the expectation is that the number of students wanting to come to the US will fall this year and in the future so that means all schools with large portions of international students should get easier to get into overall … but that’s not a guarantee that any one student will find it easier. I don’t think full-pay will help anyone get in to NYU - pretty sure they are and will remain need blind.
Nobody is sure yet how COVID-19 will affect admissions.
NYU is need-blind (for domestic students).
That being said, given your stats, admission to NYU would be extremely unlikely no matter the circumstances. Your SAT is in the bottom 25%. 100% of the admitted Class of 2023 were in the top 25% of their graduating class, with 69% having a GPA of 3.5+.
I suspect they already took coronavirus into account as they gave out offers to around 700 more people this year despite expecting the same size freshman class - yet the admit rate still fell slightly. If by “easier” you mean will they relax admission standards - I doubt it, they still reject plenty of people with high grades and good test scores, they’d go to those first. (And don’t forget they also have a long waitlist of students with scores good enough but not class space yet.)
Full pay is an advantage for internationals, doesn’t affect the admission process for domestic students.
