NYU Brittany Hall measurements

Can anyone provide some measurement on the double room of the 5-people suite? (the apartment has a 2-people room and a 3-people room). The provided floor map is not on scale. We would be interested on how high is the bed, the distance between wall and desk, and shared closet. Also, is the 4-drawers (dresser?) stackable? Can it be separated and fit under the bed?

Should we consider a safe box to be placed under the bed?
Thank you.

If it’s not on their website, the easiest way is to email or call NYU and ask.

Hi. D did call, but this level of detail will not be provided.

Post your question on the NYU thread. Is there a FB group for NYU freshmen? That would be another place to post (your daughter, not you).

thanks for your suggestion.

Aaah I lived in a double in a 5-person suite in Brittany and I loved it! Our room was huge (but we had the corner room, other doubles were much more reasonable). I can’t give you the exact measurements, though. Our dressers were under our bed but some weren’t, but the bed was able to be raised high enough that my short-ish roommate had to use a stepstool to get on it (if that helps at all)? The top drawer of the desks has a slot to put in a lock (combination or key) that you can use as a safe box.

Hi… This is really helpful. Thanks! My D will be in a corner room too. How did you raise the bed? With the lifters? Regarding the dressers, she’s been told that they are actually stackable therefore she could have them under the bed or not. Was that the case? In the case of the lock, is this something that you have to buy or is it provided by the school? D is considering the safe box for camera too, besides laptop. Lastly, since you were at BH… did you do exploration? Sorry for so many questions… and, of course, it’s ok if you are busy and cannot respond.

I did do exploration and I liked it  it made it easier to make friends. I can’t tell you if the dressers are stackable, but the ones in our room/suite were side by side under the bed. The beds definitely wouldn’t go up high enough to stack them while they’re under the bed but they fit nicely there side-by-side. The beds themselves are raisable a few feet without lifters (by pulling the mattress part of the frame higher on the legs). You have to buy the lock but there’s a Staples really close that sells them inexpensively, and there’s definitely enough room in the drawer for a camera and laptop. Also I’m just excited for your daughter because in my (probably biased lol) opinion Brittany is the best freshman dorm, it has big rooms and it’s equidistant from both Union and Washington Square which makes accessing a ton of stores/dining hall/gyms super convenient. Also it’s just a cool building haha

Thank you very much! Best wishes to you…

I have a child living in a Brittany triple/double suite too and I’m curious about the bathroom. Are all five people sharing one bathroom with one shower, one toilet and one sink? Or is there more than one shower? On the floor plan map, it looks like there is only one small bathroom.

In the triple/double suite there is only one small bathroom.

There’s one bathroom with one shower/toilet/sink, but it’s not actually that small! I expected it to be a big issue but it really wasn’t. That might be because my whole suite had different schedules (I was out most of the day and ended up showering at 1 am, one of my roommates was a morning showerer, etc) but there was never a time when it severely messed with my schedule that I had to wait for a shower, and worse case if you really need the bathroom there are multi-stall bathrooms in the Brittany rec room.

Anyone know what the closet situation is like in the suites?

There are little alcoves, at least one per person. I was in a double and we had two small closets, the triple connected to us also had two, and there were a bunch in the hallway/communal space that a lot of us used. Everyone gets their own, 6-drawer dresser
