NYU, BU, Columbia, Penn, UPenn, Do I have a shot?

I have talked to many students from HK. Most of them do not take ACT as it is not popular at all there. Most HK students are interested in the schools by the coasts. It does not really matter if you take SAT or ACT, but taking SAT2 would be helpful and I know many HK students took that too. With your current standing, your chance for ivy leagues or top 20 schools is not high. You may consider adding some other good schools like UMich. There are many HK students with credentials like yours accepted every year.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any advice for improving my chances at ivies?

bumping again

more advice please!

Hi! First of all, your ethnicity/ECs make you sound VERY appealing to colleges, which is really a big deal. But sadly, your grades DO need to go up–despite your individuality, you need to get your grades up to at LEAST A-s to be considered by these schools. Get your SAT to above 2200 and you’ll have a great chance.

Thank you so much! Will many universities want to look at my report grades? Or would it be ok if i sent my IGCSE grades, As grades, A level grades and SAT scores instead?

more please

anyone out there?

Most schools will require your high school GPA although it may be difficult to justify you from a foreign school. I am not sure if AP exam is available in HK, but I think many school will consider credit for GCE A-level in a similar way. Anyway, that is not essential. What you really need is to bump up your test scores. Be realistic, there are plenty of local students with far better stat than you got rejected from ivy leagues every year. It is fine to apply to them (try Cornell) if money is not an issue. I know some HK students went to Cornell with ~2200 in SAT. You do need to look for some matching schools though.

Thanks for the tip! Could you maybe suggest a handful (or even one or two) match schools for me? Im also planning on applying to Germany as a back up, and 4-5 Unis in the UK

please help!
