NYU, Emory, American, GW?

I applied as have been accepted to NYU Stern, Emory, American Kogod, and GW. I am heavily considering going into business. I don't know how to pick!

One one hand, I have already been admitted to the business program at NYU so I don't have to worry about transferring into it. Same goes for American. However, with Emory, I would need to apply to get into it at the end of sophomore year and this worries me. What if something were to happen and I didn't get in, I don't know what I'd do then...

On the other hand, the business programs at American and GW are not as highly rated but may provide me with a better GPA when applying to MBA programs.

Any opinions or helpful things to consider? Thanks for your help.

From what I hear, getting into Goizueta from Emory is not that difficult … you’ll be fine… Goizueta and Stern are the best business schools out of the schools you mentioned. Businessweek ranks Goizueta of Emory higher than NYU Stern but USNews ranks Stern higher… Emory will provide a more traditional college experience … plus Emory has better facilities because they are well endowed whereas NYU is not that much (considering its student population).

NYU STERN for sure for me…

NYU is located in the center of NYC. It also provides you with plenty of amazing internships and great connections. Also, many major businesses recruit at NYU. NYU is a major research school and is famous for its impressive library and labs. Stern is also internationally famous. Haha…and NYU has like the best social life ever. A disadvantage is that NYU is very expensive.

Emory is in Georgia. For the more traditional college experience, Emory would be better. Also, Emory has an absolutely beautiful campus. If you aren’t comfortable with huge cities or are from the south, Emory would be the better choice. It has a much more warm setting. Also, financially Emory is MUCH cheaper.

Uh…and GW & American should be off the list.

Uh…and GW & American should be off the list. TRUE

Take the best offer between Emory and Stern. All things being equal I say go to the big APPLE!

Neither NYU or Emory are offering me much unfortunately. Each is offering me $10,000 a year scholarship-wise and about 1500 in stafford loans. NYU is willing to loan me the rest but that’s still a loan. I wish that I was getting more from either of them. Really, the only reason that I was considering American and GW is because they are both offering me $20,000 a year scholarship. Have any of you gone to NYU or Emory?

I am going to go to Emory next year… but I already know a lot about it so if you have specific questions, please feel free to ask here or you can PM me.

If money were not an issue and only academics and quality of the business program is taken into account, then I’d choose NYU.

If money were not an issue but student body size, location, and campus quality were important to you, then Emory would be my choice. Also, if you are not 100% committed to business, I think that Emory is, overall, a better university than NYU.

People on CC tend to knock AU and GW and, in general, I would agree that they are not as good as either Emory or NYU. But the business school at AU (Kogod) is actually a very good place, and I think that DC is a better college town than either NYC or Atlanta. With a $20,000 scholarship, I don’t think it is a bad choice at all. While NYU and Emory are stonger, the difference is not so great to make up $80,000 over four years.

In general, GW is a bit stronger than AU–but not in business. Kogod is clearly superior to GW, if the choice was between those two.

^I disagree… the difference between Emory and AU is think is easily 80 k over four years provided that your family will not suffer extreme financial hardship. Also, bonanza, how do you figure academic quality of Stern is better than Goizueta? Stern has better employment prospects… but in terms of facilities anc class size and such, Emory (as you admitted) is better. I think those things contribute to the quality of a specific program.

Oh that changes things take the 20K and go to GW!

Why GW over American vociferous?

Apologies I didn’t realize that American was also offering you 20K. Hmm with Kogod I might opt for American IF you are 1000% sure its business for you. If NOT then I say GW is a bit stronger in all fields combined.
