I was admitted to NYU for Cinema Studies. As a first-gen student, I am new to the whole FA process however. Thus, I have some questions about my FA award.

  1. I got offered a 66K Parent Plus loan. How does this loan work? Does it have to be payed back within 12 months like a private bank loan would have to be? also is this loan renewable annually?

  2. I got offered 3K Federal Work Study. I understand that this is part-time work. So if I complete the job, does the 3K come into effect? Also, is the job most likely paid?

Did you submit your FAFSA on time? What was your EFC?
Are your parents willing to pay $66,000 a year for you to go to college? If not, I would advise you to look at a different school. The PLUS loan is a federal loan, it does not have to be repaid in a year.

For work study, if you get a job, they will pay you a salary up to $3,000. You get to keep that money.
