NYU financial aid?

I know they have a reputation for being horrible with financial aid, but this is my dream school. I really want to apply early there, but am put off by their binding financial aid policy (which really sucks). I don't know what my EFC is, because I haven't filled out the fafsa yet but I know my family's income is around $70,000/yr. So do I stand a chance of getting decent financial aid from them? Or do I have to just rely on FAFSA and outside scholarships?
Thanks.

Go to finaid.org and run your numbers on the calculators. If your total family income is 70,000 and you are the only one in college your EFC is in the 10,000-15,000 range. Just a guess. But their financial aid is tricky. There is a poster’s son here who has an efc of 15000 and NYU was very generous with scholarship money, you would also be entitled to a pell grant. You just never know. If money is a concern, I would not apply ED. I think you would have a better chance with better FA RD.

Just wanted to add that NYU does not meet 100% of need and that there will be a gap that has to be filled in with outside scholarships, savings, loans etc.

If financial aid is an issue for your family, DO NOT APPLY ED – to NYU or any other school! You will want to cast a wide net so that you have more options and can compare financial aid packages from different schools.

Although you can decline an ED admission for financial reasons, it is a big hassle and takes some time to get a formal release from the school, which may result in your missing the deadlines for submitting applications to other schools (or for scholarship consideration at some schools).

Sorry to kind of steal the thread, but my finances are pretty similar to OP’s, though my family income is 65k or so. Idk if people have the information to answer this question, but what would NYU charge for that tuition? Would it be around 20k? higher? I’m applying RD due to finances.
