So I'm obviously getting down to the deadline and I can't make up my mind. I've pretty much narrowed it to these four, but was hoping I could get some other points of view on them. The three American schools will cost roughly the same (ignoring the additional costs of NYC) where as McGill would cost quite a bit less (about $20k per year), and maybe I could complete it in three years. However, I can afford wherever I go somehow. I would really prefer an urban campus (Tufts doesn't make the cut for that, but there's still a lot I like about it). They're all a bit far from home (except for Tufts which is about a forty minute drive at the most). I plan on majoring in cognitive science with a focus on the computer science region of it (and maybe tacking on HCI at CMU or human factors at Tufts) but I have a really broad range of interests and creative inclinations (one of the reasons I applied to NYU Gallatin). Thus, a school with strong English, film, engineering, and urbanism studies that I could dabble in would be great. Any input would be fantastic so I can hurry up and make this decision!

Heres my opinion:

I don’t know much about tufts and don’t really care. NYU gallatin isn’t that great, i just don’t really buy into the idea that you can create your own major. But NYU does have great location and i think Tisch has really good film major if you wanna transfer. Engineering is not that strong in NYU at all… so wouldn’t recommend it.

Mcgill arts related majors ( English, etc) is pretty strong. The campus is pretty cool and chill. Buildings are somewhat euro style it’s beautiful. Mcgill is in downtown montreal, so i think that’d be great for your needs. And again, Mcgill saves you a lot of money.

As for CMU, i just know it’s pretty good overall… not much i can help you here.

I appreciate your response but I obviously do “buy in” to the Gallatin idea; I realize it isn’t for everyone though. How is student life, in general, at NYU and what is the culture and attitude like?

nyu = best city life, best food, best night life
student life is what you make of it…can be exciting if you are social can be boring if you arent

Is enjoying all that remotely affordable when you account for the fact that you’re paying to be at NYU?

Well…you make what you want tbh. Even if you dont want to spend a lot of money, you wont have to…lots of stuff that go on are free (clubs … etc) or extremely subsidized because of NYU. I’m only responding to the whats nyu like question btw
