NYU or Cornell

I was just asking if anyone here had any personal experiences or knows anyone who went to engineering school and wound up making well over 100k.

if youre that concerned with making mad bling you should just major in something like sociology and pursue a risk-averse career in law

OP, you could do BS and MS Engineering from Cornell and then go on to do an MBA...thats what i'm planning. Its easier then to make it to the top managerial posts.

"nyu, stern is the crem of the crop, the rest is just the rest, cas is good, but the rest is ehh so-so"

I feel I should raise an objection to this.

In actuality, NYU's Tisch School of the Arts is at least as prestigious, and probably moreso, in its field than any of NYU's other schools are in theirs, including Stern. If you are not familiar with this, then I encourage you to spend some time scanning some posts in CC's "Musical theater Major" sub-Forum within the "College Majors" forum.

Right now I cannot get my own daughter to consider applying to Cornell, however she would kill to get into Tisch if she elects the BFA route. The acceptance rates for the program she's interested in are below 10%, I believe.

Regarding OP, I do not recommend attending engineering school unless you affirmatively want to be an engineer. And have done your homework to arrive at this decision.

I think NYU is the worst collegiate experience in the country. There's no school spririt, community feel or campus of any kind. What NYU MBAs make isn't really that relevant to you as an undergrad and shouldn't be that large a guiding principle, anyway. Additionally, for the most part, the 140K you quote is only for people going into investment banking, who have already had 4-5 years of work experience out of undergrad. In general, Cornell is a lot more diverse and can lead you into any discipline just as well as NYU. For that matter, I would also say that Cornell's MBA is as highly regarded as NYU.

It's funny that I'm hearing the same things again...Comments like "My MBA program at Wharton had tons of engineers in it. Engineering to business is great preparation for a lucrative career." and "you could do BS and MS Engineering from Cornell and then go on to do an MBA...thats what i'm planning. Its easier then to make it to the top managerial posts." But then there are comments like, "I do not recommend attending engineering school unless you affirmatively want to be an engineer. And have done your homework to arrive at this decision." I still appreciate hearing everyone's opinion though...and what I wanted to do the most was go to Wharton since it is only 30 min. away from my house. Not surprisingly, it's the only school I got denied from, I even got waitlisted at Princeton, but I didn't get accepted to the only school that I REALLY wanted to go to.

Just keep in mind that you will most likely be very happy at whatever school you choose, and you can attain your career goals at either place.
