Should I go to UF on a full-ride or should I go to NYU, my dream school, where I’d have to take out about $8,000 in loans a year. I am pre-med with a major in biochemistry. I think both are great schools but many people have told me that I shouldn’t go into debt during undergrad so I’m not sure what to do.
Is NYU is giving you the guts of $60K+/year in finaid or scholarships? If finaid, then that suggests that your financial resources are very limited. If so, why would you start medical school with $30K in debt?
UF hands down! As someone from NY, NYU is not worth the hype! Go to UF, save up, and go to graduate school in NY if you can!!
I got a $63,600 CAS Scholarship. @collegemom3717
OP: Do you want to attend college in NYC or in Florida ?
Urban campus versus large residential campus.
Since NYU is your “dream school” and since most pre-meds change majors or career goals, then it becomes a $32,000 question.
Without more explanation as to why NYU is your dream school, I can only suggest taking the full ride option at the University of Florida.
P.S. Also, it is important to review your COA calculations to determine whether or not the shortage of $8,000 per year is accurate since you would clearly be stretching/exceeding your resources to attend NYU.
I think take UF since med school is really expensive.
