I am an undergrad 3rd year student, who is really passionate about political thought, I deciced it is what I want to do during my business internship. My GPA is 3.0 with good 3 academic recommendations and strong personal statement. What are the chances I could make it to the NYU’s Politics PhD program?
A 3.0 is very low for Ph.D. admission. What research have you undertaken in politics?
I recently started to do a research on the correlation between political affiliation and college majors, but they do not require a research. The area I want to professionalize is Political Thought
A Ph.D. is a research degree by definition.
@ TomSrOfBoston - Are you currently an undergrad at NYU? If not, where are you in college? The Politics Dept at NYU is one of the most competitive PhD programs in terms of admission, and a 3.0 GPA won’t get you a look from the faculty unless your GRE score and letters of rec are stellar. Also, it is a very quantitative program which will require the use of econometrics and game theory. If that isn’t the approach to political theory you favor, you should look elsewhere.
