Although I know it seems stupid to feel weary over rumors I've heard from people, I can't help but be slightly nervous over the the social scene at NYU. Many people says its: 1) extremely hard to make friends 2) boring, boring, boring or 3) ridiculously cliquey and the people are very unapproachable.

While this all seems stupid to read and pointless to pay attention to, when you hear it from an overwhelming amount of undergrads it is something that makes me a little nervous. Of course you cannot generalize about a student body based on a few horror stories, but would any undergrads at NYU (or past undergrads of NYU) care to comment on this?

I feel like every time I mention NYU to someone, I hear something awful about the social scene there. And of course getting a good education is the most important thing, but I'd rather not be miserable at a school for 4 years.

Why would it be boring? If it’s NYC then there’s tons of stuff to do. Hookah, clubs, restaurants, etc. Obviously you have to pay a lot of cash to party but if you’re going to NYU, then it’s not like you DON’T have money right?

And the part about NYU not being a social place is partly true. The lack of the campus is the main reason but honestly, it’s as social as you make it. Since the school is so big, you’re going to be making friends with your roommate and the people on your dorm floor mostly.

NYU is pretty much like New York City. If you’re an introvert, it is very, very easy to get “lost in the crowd”. You have to be a little more outgoing than on other campuses where you’re isolated all the time.

If NYC is boring. . . it ain’t the city’s fault.

I have a few really good friends rather than a huge group of friends, but that’s how I’ve always been.

I too have heard some pretty negative things about NYU’s student body and social life in general. Interesting…Hopefully if I decide to attend NYU my experience will be much different than the things ive been hearing…
