NYU Stern Major/Concentration Confusion

Hey there I'm going to be a freshman at Stern this fall and have been trying to think ahead about what I would like to declare for my major/concentration. I know for sure that I want to major in IB with a STRONG possibility in co-majoring with Finance; I'm also interested in possibly declaring another possible major available as a concentration (say Marketing) or a minor.

Since I wasn't so sure about what the school had to say about all this, I checked the FAQ which stated:"Students are permitted to declare up to three official designations beyond the major in Business (i.e. two concentrations and one minor; one concentration and two minors or; one concentration through Stern, one major through the College of Arts and Science, and one minor)."

As you can see, it does not really address whether a person can take a co-major/double major (which by the way, I'm not entirely certain are the same thing) as well as a minor and/or concentration.

Here's something else (only regarding concentrations) that confuses me further: "During junior and senior years, students complete a four-course sequence in a business concentration (at least one and a maximum of 2) of their choice."

This open-ended (in my confused opinion) statement seems to imply that taking up a concentration(s) is not really determined by whether a person has a major/co-major/double major declared prior to junior/senior yr

I would ask an Academic advisor but I can't book an appointment before school starts, AND I was hoping I could somewhat try to figure this out before the semester starts :p

Now I'm not even sure if I've made sense so far so I will ask again simply: Can I co-major IB with Finance with a concentration in Marketing all at once??? and if not, What would I need to do to be able to do all 3? (assuming all hope is not lost :))

I hope someone can help me out with this

In Stern, a concentration is a major. So two concentrations is pretty much a double major. Most Stern kids do two concentrations and it also requires less units than if you were to double major in say, CAS.

Yeah I’ve read that the concentrations don’t need as much units but it still doesn’t tell me whether I’m able to do all three. Also I need to point out that IB isn’t offered as a concentration and is a co-major, meaning that I will kind of have to double major in it and Finance. But I kind of also wanted to do Marketing as well which I know is offered as a concentration and can take it as one. So my question is still can I take all 3 somehow?

So essentially 2 concentrations and one major? You can’t do that. Only 2 majors/2 concentrations and a minor.

In reality, you would not be able to do 3 majors in 4 years either…
