NYU Stern v CUNY Macaulay Honors College v Penn State Schreyer Honors College

NYU Stern
- $60,000

CUNY Macaulay Honors College at Hunter
- free

Penn State Schreyer Honors College
- $25,000

If you definitely want to do IB and you can afford the tuition, go to Stern hands down.

Stern for IB
although if you want to save money, go to CUNY for two years then transfer to NYU

^Yes, but it will be hard to hold consistent leadership positions in extracurricular activities if you change schools mid-way.

I would definitely recommend Stern for FO finance roles. While the non-target route will obviously be cheaper, the price of the semi target school will definitely be covered by the numerous additional opportunities readily available to you both upon graduation and down the line through alumni.

IBanker

What about NYU Stern v Columbia SEAS?

NYU Stern

 • $60,000
 • Finance and Accounting

Columbia SEAS

 • $60,000
 • Operations Research and Financial Engineering

I’d go Columbia

Columbia. It’s an equal or better target, but you don’t have to study business as an undergrad.

So majoring in Art History or English at Columbia would be better than majoring in Finance at NYU Stern?

No way you should pick Macaulay unless it would be financially unfeasible. The experience at one of those schools, NYU Stern and Columbia is going to be considerably better. I can tell you, you will want out of macaulay because of the students of the regular college and because you get less respect and less resources. Do you want two years of less than good experience? The people want to transfer out of the CUNY honors system if they could.

Investment banks are becoming a lot more fastidious (with good reason), and so it would undeniably be better for you to choose either Stern or Columbia. Remember, banks have targets and they rarely look for employees (imagine how much more competitive it would be for FO) outside of said targets. If you have a target at your fingertips (one that is financially FEASIBLE), definitely choose that; you will reap the rewards in no time

I would go Stern then CUNY, then PSU. That is if you will be able to pay for Stern. I have heard a lot of good things about the Macaulay program from friends who were in it, although they were in Baruch not Hunter. They were given free laptops, housing, and went on trips to companies in the city etc. They also held paid internships throughout their college years at both large and mid level financial institutions, which is why I would rank it higher than PSU. If you weren’t a Macaulay admit or were applying for any other field I would switch it around.
