Where in God's name did you hear the dorms are bad? NYU dorms are among the best & biggest of any college in the country (everyone gets their own bathroom-no common bathrooms, suites have kitchens, living rooms, etc.). Many NYU dorms would make pretty expensive Manhattan apartments....and some are downright luxurious (although these tend to be farther from campus and are more for sophmores and upper classmen).

There are plenty of nice restuarants, bars, and just about everything else near NYU.

If i have won awards for photography and made several smaller movies. Does NYU offer any sports? That is one thing i am not sure of becuase at most of the top schools i can get in because of my acoomplishments in soccer...I have a 3.92GPA with a 4.2Weighted. Class president. I dont need any finincial aid and i got recommendations from some very powerful pepole in NYU because of my father. What do you think the chances are for Tisch? What do i need to do or did you have any friends that went and how did they get in. I dont really have the equipment to make a movie i just never put my video camera down. What do you think? Thanks for all your help

Does anyone go to Tisch? What were you stats applying to Tisch at NYU? WHat was in your portfolio? Are grades more important that actual artistic work? What should i do?

Your screen name seems to fit your personality on this board. For anyone to guage your chances, we'd have to know your SAT scores and activities. Also for Tisch, your artistic work will count immensely in admissions.

Yes, in fact I played varsity soccer myself at NYU. If you are good enough to play on the NYU team and can get the coach to want to recruit you, that will be a TREMENDOUS boost in the admissions process.

jwblue...how rigorous was the soccer program there? I'm not positive I want to play soccer at the college level and feel it may work better for me to just play on an intermural team. Do you know if there is a club soccer team for women at NYU?

NYU is a division III school...so it doesn't give out any athletic scholarships...and athletes are treated just like everyone else. Varsity athletes at NYU have GPA's similar to the regular students.

I played varsity soccer, and it was fairly competitive (obviously not the same level as D-1, but a great level of play regardless) and entailed somewhat rigourous schedules when combined with school stuff, but it didnt take up my life in any sense. We played schools like University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins..and all in all was really fun time. I highly recommend doing it if you are thinking about.

Check with the school about the club and intramural teams.

I'm not sure if its too late. It depends on the coach and team I guess. A crucial issue will be how much of the recruiting has already been done. Its definitely worth a shot though....you really have nothing to lose.

"Is housing guaranteed for all four years?"

Yes, if you live in housing and do not cancel it. If you live in NYU housing, leave it, and then try to come back the next year..housing is then not guaranteed. Otherwise, if you start out living in NYU housing freshmen year, its guaranteed for all 4 years if you stay.

does anyone know if a lot of students are deferred from housing freshman year because of location? according to the website, if you live within 35 miles of NYU, you aren't guaranteed housing, and living pretty close, i'm afraid that i'll have to commute, and if so, i wouldn't want to go there...

I have never heard of students being deferred. All freshmen at NYU who want housing get it. Basically, undergrads are guaranteed housing. Freshmen live in all freshmen dorms.

I got into CAS for next year, but i was wondering about the quality of the international relations program as opposed to schools which have a stronger focus and connection to international studies like George Washington?

Has anyone heard of the Gallatin School? Heard that you can plan your own program etc...what makes it special? And in their site they claim about 200 faculty were assigned to be advisors of Gallatin students...how is the reputation of the faculty?

On the NYU athletics site, I found a PDF that explains the aerobic classes and courses offered. However, they each had a price next to them. Isn't all gym use free? Am I correct that all accepted students are permitted to use all gym facilities, including aerobic classes like spinning, for free? If so, how are the classes? I'm a gym-nut, so this stuff matters.

jwblue, glad to hear you got along well in the dorms. i just finished my housing forms tonite, and i was kind of stressed, mostly by the costs. glad to hear sizing gets better as we get older, b/c unlike worried i do NOT have the income for the higher end dorms (alumni hall, etc). Worried--i got into tisch for film (i'll be going in the fall), and i sent only photography in my portfolio. a friend of mine has worked extensively with film, sent a 10 min reel, and was rejected. in my opinion he's more talented than myself, so i don' know. maybe photography is the way to go. good luck.

hey, as my title probably suggested, how do the current GSP students enjoy the curriculum/atmosphere? Do any of you guys regret going there or feel you were 'ripped off'? Or was it completely worth it and invaluable? Please respond, my parents don't think GSP is a good idea and they don't want to take the risk of me NOT getting that 3.0 GPA and failing. How many students do you know has actually not been able to complete the program?

even though NYU might be a bit "distant" with its students (from some of these comments), you must remember that it's also the largest private university (correct me if i'm wrong please, i'm not 100% sure) and recieves ~33,000 applications a year of those who want to attend. so being a bigger school, and in one of the world's most chaotique cities, i dont think you can expect them to take care of you as a smaller school would. i'm a soon to be freshman so i have had NO personal experience, but this is how I feel about this issue. i'm willing to give NYU a chance without expecting TOO much on first glance. besides, it's an extremely well rounded school (in both fields such as film and the arts and business/law/medicine) in one of the best cities in the world. (in my opinion) :)
