I’ve been spending my past academic year as a business student in a different school and finally decided to pursue what I’ve always wanted to do in film. Had to break it to the whole family and my father who has always been pushing me to study law and business gave me an ultimatum in response to my decision to pursue film. He’s giving me time in this upcoming summer and one semester in my current school’s film program to work on my portfolio to transfer to a more prestigious film school like Tisch or Columbia. If not, he’ll consider me as not “talented” or not hardworking enough to be accepted into such schools.
It’s been a bit tough for me for the last couple of years thinking that I would never get to pursue my dream in being a filmmaker and coming from a conservative family, this option’s probably the best outcome for me. I love my family but also want to live with my own choices so I had to make the deal with my father.
That said, I still have no real filming experience nor any form of creative work that’s put out yet. My original plan was to stay in my school’s film program for a year or two and review my options then, but obviously things don’t always work out in life. All I wanted to know is would Tisch accept my application as a transfer student with just one semester of credits fulfilled relating to film courses?
*I don’t need people commenting about how impossible it is to get in with my situation. I am aware of how difficult it’s going to be, but I am willing to put the work in for it and give my very best despite what history would tell of applicants like me.
Thank you,
