I'm a sophomore in high school and plan to apply at NYU for Film and Television, however I noticed that they have a broad range of options for a portfolio submission. Since I am more skilled as an artist in drawing, I was thinking of submitting them as a portfolio rather than a short film, but would this affect my chances of being accepted into the program next to someone who had used a short film? I am not worried about my grades in admissions, even though I have yet to take my SAT and ACT, I am involved in honors and AP classes and plan to add many more to my curriculum in the following years, and as of now I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted. I will be enrolled in Portfolio Preparation and AP Art in 11th and 12th grade and would use this time to create my NYU portfolio. Would I be wasting my time in using a drawn portfolio and decreasing my chances of being admitted?

Although a portfolio of drawings is one of the options for your creative submission, I don’t think many go that route which doesn’t mean it will hurt your chances. It may even stand out in a sea of videos. However, if you want to major in Film and Television, you may want to improve your video skills.
