I have been accepted into all these schools and am trying to pick between them (also accepted into GW and Notre Dame, but not totally considering them as of now..). I am looking to be pre-med. Also on the waitlist at Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, and WUSTL, and would probably attend any of them if I somehow got in.... Any input on any of these would be greatly appreciated!!

are you in state for UVA or W&M? If you are, I’d go to one of those (especially if paying for med school is in your future). If not, think about BC’s honors program or W&M. My college experience was in a smaller school…and you get all the help you could ever want/need in the premed classes. You may feel a little lost trying to figure out orgo at NYU (not trying to knock NYU–if you were thinking of a different major, like communications, I’d push NYU).

As is the case with most of these decision threads, what you learn in the classroom at each is not going to be as varied as the locale of each. Each offers a completely different environment with different kinds of people. I’m surprised one doesn’t stick out for you. Don’t you have preferences regarding being near a big city, weather, Division I sports, etc.? Have you spent much time in NYC or people from NY/NJ? When you think of college in the fall, do you want to stroll along tree-lined paths on the way to a football game with tens of thousands in attendance or do you want to hunker down in a coffee shop?

I’d choose UVA or W&M amongst these choices, and hope one of the waitlists comes through!

Well I’m from New York, so my preference was to be in a big city like New York or Boston, but I wasn’t sure if being in the city is worth the extra cost of NYU. I’m lucky enough that my parents are paying for my college, but I’m not sure if NYU (or BC for that matter) is worth the extra $15k a year.

Because even out of state for those schools is significantly less expensive

That would depend on your parents’ financial situation. Also figure in transportation costs…those would probably be close to a thousand more per year to get to and from the remote Virginia locations.

But you are on the waitlist at some great schools…why not wait for them to report?

I’ll be staying on those waitlists, But i still need to send in a deposit somewhere else by May 1.

On college confidential Barrons is always saying the science facilities at UVa are antiquated. Anybody know if that would have an impact on pre-med studies?
