OMG lol Housing Contracts are finally home!! So who's going where?!

Did you receive it in the mail? I haven't gotten mine yet.

Yeah I just got it today. The only thing in it is the contract itself, we fill out the community preferences, meal plans, and roommate online.

Didn't get mine yet either.

I need to compare and contrast Middle Earth and Mesa Court now :.

Hurrah I got mine also. I put down Mesa Court because I really want to live there. Is there a chance that they will stick me in Middle Earth anyway? That would make me sad. :(

Oh and I thought the roomate questions were too...simple. I don't think smoking preference and sleeping habits are enough to base roommate assignments on.

"I need to compare and contrast Middle Earth and Mesa Court now :."

Yeah can someone post the differences between the two.

I was leaning towards middle earth because it might be a more social sciences based area and I took a tour that was nice. I don't really know anything about Mesa Court.

p.s. 4-6 people share bathrooms in the dorms (EWWW I'm a germaphobe :(), is it the same in Mesa Court?

AHH. I got the EMAIL today saying they mailed out the contract for res. halls. I hope it comes. Cuz you know, I never received my Irvine acceptance letter. haha

"Oh and I thought the roomate questions were too...simple. I don't think smoking preference and sleeping habits are enough to base roommate assignments on."
CRAP THAT'S ALL THEY ASKED?! omg. I hear other schools have long surveys matching people up based on personality and all of that. not just smoking preference and sleeping habits.

I STILL don't know if I prefer Mesa or Middle. Both have awesome pros but bad cons. This is what I've gathered:

MESA:
pros-
- newer and nicer
- slightly bigger rooms
- more bathrooms and lounge areas (meaning less people sharing)
cons-
- far away
- food not as good
- can't move around furniture (haha not a big deal to me but maybe for some)

MIDDLE:
pros-
- more centralized
- more "social"
- better food in two dining halls
- has a gym

cons-
- older, not as nice (especially the older phases, heard those are badddd)

vc1188

I thought Mesa Court was older?
" Mesa Court was the first residence hall community at UCI, opening with the campus in 1965."

What do you mean by moving furniture? You're making me scared. I should've taken the mesa court tour!

Current Pick: Mesa Court

@ jas0n - Mesa Court as a community is older but they recently added new halls so going there could potentially mean getting a new dorm lol

As of now I'm leaning towards Mesa too..I don't see the distance as a con. Personally I'd rather have at least some distance between dorms and school so I'm not on campus all the time x_x

Ahh, that's what I thought. Thanks for the information Heylookitsme.

I haven't received my packet yet. I want to start applying already =.

God damn it I got the contract but I'm too scared to do anything! I don't know if I should switch my preference from ME to MC or what's a good meal plan!!! :(

Choosing meal plans was brought up in all housing tours in the UCs I visited. Every tour guide recommended not to get too much, because you will end up not eating it all. The tour guides recommended to first get a meal plan a little more than normal, and apply for less during the next quarter (if you have leftover meals - which roll over).

AHH I just received and opened my housing contract packet. Feeling overwhelmedddd!

jas0n- I totally feel the same

I'm going with Middle Earth I guess. I don't really see why not.

As for meal plans, what are you guys choosing? Is 100 block meals per quarter too little?

ok, here's the deal.
when i first applied for housing i put AV as my 1st preference and then later on i emailed them about swithing the res. halls as first and they emailed me back saying my preference has been changed. and then i get an email saying im getting a contract for AV saying that even though my preference has changed there's no more room. but i changed is way before the deadline. i mean, when did you guys turn in your housing apps? i really dont want to live the far from campus :|

Some people who put either Mesa or Middle as first choice still get AV these days just cause there isn't enough room.

actually the contract says the meal plan doesn't allow roll over meals after quarters, if i'm not mistaken.

sigh..
then can i get some information about AV? how exactly do the meal plans work for it, since its not required there?

Just look for info about AV on the UCI Website. Not hard to find. Frankly, I don't know why you want to live there. Unless you can cook and drive and know a lot of upperclassmen, I wouldn't recommend staying at AV. But yeah, it's your choice. I'm choosing Mesa! woot doot...
