D just texted to say that the local ABC tv news crew and another crew from Birmingham filmed the OA group today and will be doing a segment on them sometime tonight.

Today they drove the path of the tornado through Tuscaloosa, then ended up at hurricane creek which was “utterly demolished” according to D. They cleared away debris all day for their service project. D said huge, old trees weer snapped in half like toothpicks and there was no shade to be had. Since they had hiked that area last year it was a surreal experience.

Looking for the link also. DS said local ABC and fox stations were there (he thinks). He was interviewed but doesn’t know by who??? He said he got a real appreciation of the damage today. Could not believe the damage at Hurricane Creek. Said it used to be a forest and now there is NO shade! He said very hard work today, but very rewarding.

she built a bench (not one I’d chose to sit on probably),
she compared tatoos with the tractor driver pulling the trees out of the creek (he didn’t have a nose ring like hers though),
she watched a burger eating contest at Mugshots (someone in OA!), and
that several of them have decided to train together for a marathon.
Also that her roommate left the iron plugged in on a wooden table and left for rush. Didn’t so much need to add that to my list of worries.

Son said he felt like they really accomplished a lot of needed work yesterday. He said he and some others spent part of the time neck deep in brackish water in order to remove some of the debris. Good thing he took an old pair of shoes with the intent of tossing them after O.A.

I was hoping to catch a glimpse of my son. Oh well. Thank you for posting the link! I haven’t been getting much info from him. He also went to watch the 3 pound burger eating contest.

Thanks Student! 3kids it was a short clip but the students have had a GREAT week. My DS also was also at Mugshots for the eating contest. He said it was the “grossest” “coolest” thing he’d ever seen! It was those last 45 seconds of heaving while the student tried to keep down what he had eaten that got him! LOL He did it though! ROLL TIDE!

Your boy done good (of course). Last year, when my son was interviewed by a UA video crew at OA, THEY reminded the sweaty young lad to put his shirt on. It’s hard to remember decorum when you’re busy saving the planet and trying to impress the girls. :)

Malani, I remember seeing your son’s interview last year. He also did a GREAT job! Great group of freshman we had last year! My DS said that the freshman this year are AWESOME! Would we expect anything else? ROLL TIDE!
