Oberlin or Brown

I'm a transfer student hoping to get into Oberlin or Brown. Brown was originally my first choice but Oberlin is becoming more and more appealing. Thoughts?

where are you transfering from?

Tulane in New Orleans

Part of the answer might be why you are transferring.

I'm interested anyway, since my D is trying to decide between Tulane, Colgate and Oberlin. I know...very different schools but $$, politics, student body and surrounding area (or lack thereof) are considerations amongst others.

Tulane and Oberlin are NOTHING alike, from what I know abaout Oberlin. Oberlin is very community based and in a small town with a residential campus-centered social life and a bunch of politically active intellectual people.

Tulane has no sense of community, is in an amazing city, is not residential and no one goes to on campus events, partially because they suck. Classes are big (at least in science) and people are crazy apathetic. And there's a lot of preppy greek people -- but also a lot of cool people who make fun of them.

What I want in a school

Community
Great Social Life
Residential campus
Small classes (specifically upper level science classes, since that's what I"m missing here at tulane)
Great professors
Nice, easy to befriend people(especially since I'll be atransfer)
Liberal, non-apathetic atmosphere
Intellecutal discussions outside of class
Not to feel smothered by too small of a school

Great neuroscience
Great (women's) rugby
Good ceramics

The people I know who go to Oberlin love it. They stay on campus because there are so many things to do. There are over 300 concerts a year and 100's of other activities.

lol, did you check the date of this thread? it's a little old...i'm at Brown and have been for a couple of years. lol.

HardDriver,

5 Posts, all reviving 1-4 year old abandoned and irrelevent threads here or on Emory site. What gives?

Haha I guess that is a little odd...
