I got accepted with $11k merit scholarship at Oberlin, but am also considering Bryn Mawr and Scripps (full pay). I love the academics that Oberlin offers, but am concerned about whether it's a good fit for me socially. Social life at Bryn Mawr, on the other hand, seems to be lacking. Scripps is great because it's close to home (I live near San Francisco) but I'm not really into the LA culture. At this point I really have no preference for major, so that doesn't help narrow it down at all, but I'm curious to hear which school you would choose.

Oberlin is also on my top 3 list. And I feel the exact same way. While socially it isn’t way out of my fit, it does feel a bit off. Academically it is about perfect.

If there are 2 of us worried about the social life I can guarantee there are plenty more, and a lot will end up going. Something to think about. There should be plenty of attendees that you’ll be able to fit in with.

I have a brother that attends Oberlin and he says there are a lot of people he can’t stand, but he loves it there.

I am making a similar decision, Bryn Mawr or Scripps or Mount Holyoke. I think I’ve killed Mount Holyoke because its so isolated but between BM and Scripps its more difficult. I think it really is coming down to weather you prefer the East or West Coast. BM seems to be more edgy than Scripps as far as I can tell and it offers a stronger faculty.

What concerns you about the social life at Oberlin?
