Hi I am currently a high school senior and trying to figure out where to go! I'm worried about a) the terrible weather b) lack of community/dating scene c) not fitting in at Oberlin. I have a 4.6, 34 act, 2170 sat, I play violin and field hockey, from Tennessee, and am a serious left libertarian who is interested in the environmental science and social justice. Which school should I pick!?! Help please I need lots of insight

From what I hear, everyone fits in at Oberlin. It is a very accepting community. Why do you think you will not fit in?

I think the weather would be the same as for Swarthmore.

Oberlin is known for social justice; my son really enjoyed the 2 day social justice institute during orientation.

Obviously, Oberlin has fantastic music opportunities in terms of classes, lessons, recitals and concerts.

In short:

It rains more and is slightly cloudier and windier in Oberlin than Swarthmore. If the weather is going to stop you from coming to this wonderful place, then I don’t know what to tell you.
From what I have seen, there is a better social scene at Oberlin than at Swarthmore, regarding dating and fitting in.
We definitely care a lot about the environment and social justice. Libertarians are a major part of on campus political discourse.

From what you wrote, it seems like you have every reason to fit in at Oberlin. That said, some kids just seem to get unlucky (that goes for any institution).

Swarthmore is where social life went to die. Awesome college. The social scene - so I’m told - is something else, however.

Swarthmore is also significantly smaller than Oberlin, which can’t be helpful socially. Not as many folks to choose from.

Don’t know anything about Hendrix, other than the fact it’s in Arkansas–not exactly a hotbed of social justice, or former stop on the Underground Railroad like Oberlin. Enough said.
