Obsessing Over A Top College Acceptance= Unhealthy

You need to keep college out of your mind for now. You’re a freshman. Worry about college later, when you have a better idea of where you stand and what you want.

You sound like you’re in a seriously crappy place emotionally. I recommend quitting any and all ECs for the remainder of the year to give yourself time to study. For whatever it’s worth considering the little time left in the year, really focus on figuring out how certain teachers operate. Just by spending a while analyzing past tests or homework assignments, you can figure out what a teacher really emphasizes. Class isn’t just about learning the material; it’s about feeling out the teacher. Learn this lesson early, because it will carry all through high school.

And stay off CC. I had a really similar freshman year–I got down on myself because of CC stats and ended up beating myself up over little things while ignoring the bigger picture. Get off CC and come back your junior year. It’ll keep you sane. And avoid talking about college. It’s an easy habit to fall into (between CC and the fact that I’m a junior, I can hardly avoid the topic) BUT you can’t do that in real life. It’s annoying, and no one wants to hear stories about 2400/4.0 vals who cured cancer and went to TASP getting rejected from Harvard. Focus on the strengths your friends have and embrace those; same goes for yourself. Once you stop focusing on how “college worthy” people are and start embracing their idiosyncracies, you’ll feel more like a friend and a human being than a college search book.

Best of luck!

^ To add to that, colleges want well rounded students. Not overachieving people who have 10 APs and all 5s. CC goes beyond the standards of getting into colleges.

Wow

thats horrible

And Upward Trend is not as good as straight A’s. I have a slight upward trend but its not as good as the perfect 4.0

^^I know this has been said many times before, and you’re probably tired of it, but colleges want a well-rounded class, not necessarily well-rounded students.

The one sentence in this thread that really matters.

It’s the exact thing I said. Well rounded students are well rounded class (only if they have the big money).

You guys don’t understand. I have only one honors class out of the possible 5. And honors classes are not for free admission.

All the people in my school who have gone to a top school has had a 98 average with the most demanding schedule. No one ever, and I even asked my guidance counselor, has been accepted to a top school from my school with 98 average or less. My school has been around for like 100 years.

It’s people like you Splonk, that make me want to kill myself.

You have to pay to take honors?!?!

Esmee, if people on the internet telling you that you’re stupid is making you want to kill yourself, then by all means, I will supply the rope. Rofl.

I meant that you can’t just take honors classes as much as you want. You have to be reccommended and have all of these requirements.

That’s the same thing that goes on in my school. 98 average kids get into top schools, unless your school is grade inflated, which colleges will check during the admission process – that is highly regaurding one’s SAT score.

I’ve seen kids with 90s in demanding schedule get into top schools. You don’t necessarily need above 4.0 GPA. To even say the least, 3.4 kids get into top schools due to fortunate luck.

That’s kind of harsh because some of us are trying to help him out.

Well when you have your teachers calling you and your class dumb, having your friends tell you you have no life, having your parents say that you will be a failure when you go up no matter what happens, and having people on the internet saying crap about you, then, yes, you hate you life. Your life is over.

By the way, I am a girl.

I think you might want to see a psychiatrist. I’m dead serious. If schoolwork is taking such a huge toll on you, you need professional help to get better.

Not really. They generally want well-lopsided people, the sum of whose talents make the entire class well-rounded.

Look, a great education is no walk in the park. You have to work hard to get to wear you want to be, but for goodness sake, take a chill pill! You are way over stressed and that is severely unhealthy. You’re what, 15 years old? Please, for your sake, just calm down and try to BREATHE. Figure out what you want and go for it, but don’t kill yourself (literally or figuratively) in the process! Do something that you like, something that clears your head once in a while.

And just remember that wherever life takes you, it will all work out in the end. “Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans” = so true. You’re still a kid. Be one once in a while, okay? :]

Esmee, you realize that as a human being in a country such as America you can tune out what people think of you, and just do what you feel is right, as long as it’s not breaking the law… rightttt?

you got accepted into a top notch college.

congratulations.

why don’t you reward yourself with a treat or two and just relish the remaining time you have with your friends and family?

Too bad it can’t happen until he’s a Senior like me, even though I got into 0 top colleges. I’m not complaining so much as before though. Why? Because I always have the option to transfer out. Going into Ivy League schools as an undergraduate does not necessarily mean you will be on the top than everyone else who attends a lower tier institution. You can end up going in and become a loser with a 3.0 GPA. Ivy league degrees may be prestigious, but work ethic will bear more emphasis than the name of an architecture. I’ve decided to come upon choosing a well-known prestigious State University in NY because I know it is top notch for what I want to do later on. It’s better than a friend who I had said “I want to go to NYU Stern and have alot of girlfriends and then Harvard and Yale for graduate school.” That, is called being a self-conscious jerk stuck up.

@OP: I’m assuming that you just used the phrase in the usual whiny teenage I’m-so-pathetic way, but if you ever actually consider killing yourself you need to seek professional help.

HE86: Esmee’s a ****ing girl, at least think before you type things. It makes you look a lot smarter…but of course it’s the internet, so I digress. -.-

WHOA. major fail in my part-I assumed OP was a senior.

no worries eagle. . . . .you are just like me lol.

lets savor the remaining time we have in our senior years, no? :)
