October 2009 SAT Critical Reading

Can someone give me a list of vocabulary words that appeared in the reading sections? The vocabulary was pretty brutal because only three out of the 300+ I memorized over the summer came up, which really ticked me off. That would be great if someone can give me a list, so I can review the words and build onto my vocabulary knowledge. I only remember “despondent” “slapstick” and “wry”. Thanks.

stix–is that the same question that had the answer choice “that certain genius qualities are not inherent in these groups of people” or no?

what is the question for idealistic narrative?

@yoitzzjasonn
i remember polymath, jocular, satellite, captious, edifying ?

:can someone please explain “usefullness to modern technology”

I didn’t think that that answer was as good as another in context of the final paragraph as a whole (i.e. the whole historical speculation thing) but it seems to be the consensus."

Thank you. The final question was talking about the final paragraph. The final paragraph acknowledges that it affected today but it never mentions that it was useful. The entire thing was about how something from 400 years ago can still impact something today. Hence, it was the answer with the reference to the “400 years before” or something.

right: crystallize, synthesize, hobble, lexicon, recriminate

wrong: commandeer, disseminate, amalgamate,

I can’t seem to remember more…

art is a “full time endeavor” right?

Was the answer for the first question about Women and Art something about assumptions?

^ Yeah I put endeavor.

@andromeda
yeah, i put something about to challenge assumptions of great artists

what is the question for idealistic narrative?

@Crosstheuniverse

i hope we’re right! that’s what I was thinking. and that was the only one i had “missed for certain”

stix2400, you said “the reason neither of them achieved genius was why? Because of their social status. As long as “certain groups” CAN refer to the elements of common social status held by aristocrats and women, it’s correct.”

so, stix, was that the question that had “that genius qualities were inherently missing from certain groups of people”?

yes. which i believe is right.

i think they were two different questions… but i may be mistaken. however, i did put that certain genius qualities were missing from certain groups, which is taken explicity from the text–is that what you put too?

on the living in the present passage, would the author of passage 1 (spiritual follower) “completely agree” or “partially agree” with the first sentence of passage 2 (“for the hedonist and the guru…”?

I put completely. I had no reason to sense that he’d have any reservation.

In the women and art passage, what was the answer to “How does the author answer the question posed in the first sentence?” (the question in the first sentence was something like Why are there no great women artists?)

Yeah, he completely agreed.

Was the title “the feast before us” or something like that?

yes definitely the one with feast
