October 2009 SAT Critical Reading

does anyone remember what was the question to “squandering opportunities”?

and for that one question that referred to ‘pablita’, was the answer something to the lines of parents’ encouragement depends on the gender of their child?

When she says “Through some mysterious coincedence”, she mocking the fact that everyone just seemed to be found on a farm.
its has a little sarcasm to it too/

can some one help me on the native america one?

nikhil gogol was cake like the only one i missed was prolly gogol to nikhil shift of narrative gahhhhhhh

how much do we have to miss for 620-680

For 620, a raw score of around 51 would suffice.

Why did the author list and describe the pictures in the geology passage? Was it for their novelty/diversity or to explain his personal fascination with the book?

Masterus2010 said a few pages ago that they found the women-art passage on another thread. Where is it?

ahsanxr so like how many wrong total is raw score of 51 lollllz

everyone failed the art-women it was ridiculous i think i mised 7 or 8 or everything

wat was the question to the 2nd nativce american one?

i put uneasiness too…i didn’t think he was that surprised…

anyone remember the question of captious…edifying one?

Yes, captious and edifying was the right answer. I put surprised as the answer ^

Masterus2010 said they found the women-art passage on a different thread. WHERE IS IT?

Ok, the second native american question was trickier than most people are making it out to be. I really don’t think ceremonial texts were important in everyday tasks. I put something like: a highly developed memory is needed to understand". If it’s not that, then it’s not everyday life either, that just doesn’t even make sense from a nonpassage view.

yes i put that too.
It said like they would need good memory for participations in ceremonies.
They infered that because they particapte that it is part of the life

some people put that repitition did not make it easier to memorize ceremonial textx. However, this is the main idea of the passage, and the last sentence has nothing to do with repitition at alll.
so I put that they need goo dmemorny to particiapte in the cermonies

the answer is that “ceremonial texts are NOT an aid to memorization.” the entire passage was a refute to the claim that repetition in those texts were because their culture was oral–nothing was recorded down on paper–therefore, to get people to remember better, there was repetition. but oral history DEMANDS a more fine-tuned memory, as the author concluded in the final few lines, therefore, texts are not an aid to memorization.

IRJunkie, I put personal fascination, but I could be wrong. my reasoning went something along the lines of that the space trip/photos were NOT anything new (the geologist had already heard rumors about the space voyage itself). However, he WAS surprised about the quality. Therefore, it was more of a personal realization than anything else. Again, I am not 100% sure about that question. However, I got every other reading comp question right according to this thread, so I am going to hope that I did miss something.

@freakchild12
loll yea i know the answer is captious/edifying, but do you remember the question?

Why is nobody answering my question?

^what was your question?
