October 2010 ACT Math Thread

^I think it was C. But it was the last ones are the whatever the first one was said to be.

what was the one that was like “what value of ‘a’ will make infinite solutions”

Ah yay I think I got it right?

kai, the answer was 9-since if you multiplied the top equation by like 3, then they would be the same lines-making infinite solutions

And also, how is there dispute about if its 90? Thats dumb, there is no argument. the 8th number, which NO matter what would be in the 81-90 range, that number woud be the range. The 8th, 9th and 10th can all be 90, and the 8th will still be the median.
Its 90.

yay i think I only got -1!

I got three on the infinite line one. I even solved them. But who knows lol

It was 5 or 9 I think, I seem to remember having the top equation, when multiplied by 3, being 45.

The obtuse triangle is the only one I’m worried about.

It’s geometric 2/3.

3/25 for tan.

2 coats=14

yeah i just remember making sure that it equaled 45

What was the amplitude question.
period was pi and the amplitude was 3 or 6?

amp was 3.

Also, whoever got 3 as an answer for the infinite solution is sadly wrong :(. it was 9, so that the equation equaled 45.

oh shi- it’s from the middle to the top, i did the whole thing… damn…

What was the answer to the last one? I think the median one, everyone’s saying it was 90, but what was the letter? I ran out of time and randomly guessed on several. I either put B for them or the last answer choice…please someone tell me the answer was one of those so i can have a sliver of hope…

Yeah but when you plugged in three, then solved the equation, it reduced to the same equation…or so I thought…

For the isosceles right triangle question, was it asking for the length of the other leg or the length of the hypotenuse? I know you were given the length of one leg to be 10.

When you plugged in 3 the right side of the equation was the same. You still needed to make the x’s and y’s the same.

Median was 90, but I don’t remember the question.

Amp is 3, period is pi.

I hate how they test things like amplitude which are things you just have to know from previous learning nothing you can prove to yourself through reasoning.

I am now beating myself up for putting 6. I’m an idiot… Of course it was 3… :frowning: I didn’t get to about 3 or 4 questions (got to them, but answered insanely quickly, doubt I got them all right). So what would -5 or -6 be?

linger, ^^ACT is all about learned knowledge, SAT is reasoning.
I only remember amplitude from sound waves in middle school, thank god I paid attention in middle school. 5 to 6 wrong should be a 30

I also put 6 :frowning: That would probably be a 30-31

Polyosphy: I know I am just mad I missed, If i had gotten it right then I wouldn’t be complaining LOL

Anyone remember if sqrt(200) was the correct answer for the isosceles right triangle question or was it 10?
