September 2010 ACT Math Discussion

This might be a bit early but I thought I would make this thread now so no one gets a chance to post it under an ambiguous title tomorrow. Discuss all Math questions here after the test tomorrow. Good luck to all! :)

When is the embargo lifted!?!?!?!?!!? I would like to know the 2x and x^2 problem (doesn’t give anything away). PM me??

RAlec, i don’t think here is an embargo for the ACT.

Can you type out the problems, maybe i can help you figure them out? (i didn’t take it today)

your talking about the one that said which one is not rational in terms of pi. i guessed tan x
2^x
tan x (in terms of degrees)
sin x (in terms of radians)
square root of pi

Hm. I will wait till after pacific time finishes the test to publicly post the question.

Mark I would PM you but I can’t exactly remember the question, besides the 2 equations

^Answer is sinx

Didnt it say which is rational???

I put sinx

Same, sinx would make it 0, thus becoming rational.

What was the value of a?

can’t remember the first part

6x^2+ax+10 was the second part i think

didn’t have time for this one

There is a question asking about 5 distinct points and which polygon will give you the most connected lines??

I put Pentagon…

I think a was 11

and **** I didn’t realize it was a POLYGON. I put circle for the answer :(

i put pentagon to… was scared it might have been circle and dang for that i put tanx because i thought 0 was not rational MAN I AM MADDD

^HelloHelloKitty: It was the circle. If you draw the pentagon and put the points on the vertices you will only be making 2 lines, whereas you have a constant 4 lines with the circle.

^infinite: It was -11.

Yea, that’s what I meant.

billa, I think it asked which POLYGON

It said geometric figure (not polygon) I think, so circle would work.

Yeah, pretty sure it said geometric figure or shape. I picked circle.

Well a circle is DEFINITELY not a polygon :/

Didn’t it say “geometric figure”?

Um… I think your geometry works differently than mine. 0.o Then again, I put pentagram, though it was pretty much a guess.

I put circle

Was #57(the question about the slope of the LOBF), A?
