October 25, 2008 ACT Discussion- Science

really? wow how'd you figure that one out.

i took chemistry. u have to balance the equations. that means each side has to have the same number of elements. since there is 2N and 4O on the right side, u have to make the leading coefficients on the left side so that there will be 2N and 4O on the left side too.

ohhhhh Yeah I took chemistry a long time ago and forgot all of that. Man that sucks =/

I freaking wasted so much time on the first 2 parts, with the pea pods and oxide.
I DIDN'T GET THE PEA PODS AT ALL.
*** were those AABBCCDDEE. Get any off it.
So by the time I got to the 3rd section, I started skimming the text and randomly choosing -.-

You've never taken Genetics in bio? A = dominant allele and a = recessive allele.

question -
is there a way to check what you got on the multiple choice for the science section? i just see my score out of 36 for the section, so i'm not sure.

Yes. You can order a copy of the test and your answers but only on certain test days. This years' are December 2008 , April 2009 and June 2009.

for the mosquito graph one, did anyone else think that there was no correct choice for "which attracted more mosquitos after the treatment?"

i definitely only counted 3, but three wasn't listed, so i put 4.

I had the same issue. There were definitely only 3 that showed increase after treatment but that was not an answer. Will the ACT realize this and disregard that question?

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I counted four... Idk though.

yeah their were 4- i counted 3 and i got confused why their was a 3 answer choice so i counted again and their was a tiny graph section that was barely noticeable to my eye that showed a higher one. so yeah 4

well at least i put four down as my answer.

I haven't taken Physics yet so I'm pretty sure I did bad on that part but the rest wasn't that bad.

yep it was 4. pretty positive.

what percent had both dominant alleles (DD i think)?

I think I put 0 but I can't really remember. I looked at it and I don't recall seeing any DD's...but I could be wrong.

hmm my reasoning was the Dd or DD meant grean pods or something like that...and there were 50% of those, so less than 50% had to be DD. I had no idea though, this was prob an easy Q.

yeah i put 0%

It was 0% because one of the parents didn't have the necessary allele. One parent had Dd and the other had dd, so it couldn't have DD.

i had the same problem initially 3 vs. 4 but then when i went back one of the last three had it just BARELY above the other one. it was like exactly one unit of whatever the graph was representing
