Please forgive a bit of parental bragging, but my daughter just learned this week that she will be the lead, Polly Baker, in the school musical "Crazy for You." As a sophomore, this is virtually unheard of at our school. I really think all the training she received this past summer at OCU had a huge impact. She was much more confident in her original audition and her callback audition where she had to sing, tap, and participate in cold reads --all skills she honed at OCU this summer. I can't speak highly enough of the program.

AnnefromMA,
If I remember correctly, I believe they announced the musical in January.

Anne1244,
Congrats to your d!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AnnefromMA,
I just received an email from OCU that said they would announce the musical later this month.

Got an email from OCU today - they announced the show!

"We are pleased to announce that the High School Musical Theater Program will
be presenting a fully staged production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney
Todd." "

This makes me wish even MORE so that I'll be attending this summer :) Does anyone know their acceptance rate for the summer program?

Thanks Hollylove. My d was really pleased to hear the news!
She is auditioning for session I in January. Last year she sent in a dvd audition (she attended session II and fell in love with OCU). This year she will be auditioning in person as I thought it might be good practice for the "real" auditions next Fall.

I don't know the actual statistics, but I think I remember hearing that around 200 auditioned and 80 were accepted (40 each session). Correct me someone if I am wrong!!! :) :)

My d also is going to audition (by dvd) for Michigan's MPulse. She wants so badly to go to both...we'll have to see what happens.

Hollylove, are you auditioning for the OCU summer program this year? Feel free to PM me if you have any questions for me or my d.

I am auditioning! :) Thanks for the info.

Is there a difference between the two sessions? If not is there some way for me to just audition for either?

There are no differences between the two sessions regarding classes and performance. (Although last summer, Kelli O'Hara led a Masterclass for Session I only. :( )

I'm pretty certain that when you apply you must choose either Session I OR Session II (instead of saying that you'd go to either one).

So I just filmed my audition! Hopefully I'll get everything else in order this week.

Would they get angry if I wrote "Either" and checked both boxes? Haha.

To HollyLove:

My daughter actually applied quite late last year, and while she had a preference for one session, we indicated that she could attend either. Applying this early, it shouldn't make a difference, so I would go with the session that works best for you. I will add, however, that the second session last summer was considerably larger than the first session--a condition I hope they correct this summer.

Does anyone know if they allow a minor outside of musical theatre? So if I wanted to get a BFA in musical theatre and a minor in English (or something), they would allow that?

Is anyone on here sending their son or daughter to the junior high camp?

If so, did they go last year? My son went last year and loved the program. He will be going back again this year.

We debated about sending him to the high school camp but we feel that the age range is too big for him....he will be a 9th grader in the fall.

My daughter is going to the july session of the Junior High MT and is very excited. First time going to anything like this. She has always been interested in theatre, but has been so involved in other areas of school, hasn't focused as much on it as she wants to. So, she decided to forgo her regular camp experience to check this out and see if she really has the interest she thinks she does. Hopefully it goes well. I've heard a lot of good things about it, and being from the OKC are myself before moving to Tulsa, I'm comfortable with her going there on her own! I agree about the age range. Mine is only going into 8th, but will still try to do the Jr High again next year if possible.

also, does anyone know what the play/show they will be doing for Jr High MT? I thought they said it would be announced in January but hadn't seen anything about it.

The Junior high camp is "Fiddler on the Roof" I think. I think your D will enjoy it. We were a little worried as our son had not ever stayed away for that long until last year's camp. They keep the kids so busy that I don't think they have a chance to be home sick. Last year's counselors were great so I am sure they will pick excellent counselors again this year.

My son will also be doing the July camp.

has anyone gotten an acceptance for summer musical theatre camp yet???

The 1st date for giving out acceptances will be Feb 15th. I'm pretty certain that they stick to that date.

Rejected :(

oh Hollylove, I'm so sorry. I know how much you wanted to go...but there are lots of other summer programs! Keep trying! :)
