Hi everyone! I’m new to this, but it seems to be the best place for advice on things like this so, here I go.

I’ve auditioned at the big schools in New Mexico (my home state), and a few other places, but OCU was really my first choice. I auditioned for Music Theater/Vocal Performance and instead got into the Bachelor of Arts in Music program. They attached information that clearly shows the difference between the two. I’m grateful to be given this opportunity even so, but dance is my weak point, and the BA Music program doesn’t allow students to take dance classes at the school. I’m curious to see if there are other people who are currently a BA Music major at OCU, or have sons or daughters in this situation. My intention would be to re-audition for the Music Theater/Vocal Performance programs in the fall if I did go to OCU, but I’m wondering whether it’s worth my time and money, or if I should study elsewhere for a year and try again. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

I’m mostly interested in the way people in this program feel, if they’re getting a leg up, how they interact with others, how many people, if you’re trying to audition for the more intense programs in the future, any thoughts :)

What they are looking for is totally subjective. I have a friend that went there last summer, got a lead in their show, and loved it. She auditioned for them and did not get in (MT). She got into UCLA, Syracuse, and several others. You just don’t know. She thought the summer program was a great experience but it does not take the place of training if you lack that in some areas. It will not take the place of a summer of intense dance lessons.

“Community” dance classes are available on campus. So you can get dance if not for credit.

We are wondering about this as well. How do the kids keep up with their dance?..and really the bigger question is how many kids get offered a double major BA in vocal performance and BFA in acting, reaudition for MT after the first year and how many actually get accepted?
