@soozievt and @uskoolfish - I agree that NYU’s numbers are really tough to gauge accurately. I would also throw in t there are a large number (in fact, perhaps a majority) of the massive pool of applicants who are NOT auditioning for MT. D is TAing for someone on the audition panel this year, and has gotten some interesting tidbits from behind the veil so to speak. Also, just anecdotally, she has spent 3.5 years there in acting studios- and while virtually everyone she knows there has done musicals at some point - lots did not audition MT
My oldest daughter is a senior at Vanderbilt.
My youngest is a junior MT BFA.
It was far easier for my oldest to get into Vandy than it was for my youngest to get into a BFA program. (And Vandy hovers around a 10% acceptance rate.)
You can definitely set yourself up for success w/ your admission package when you’re applying to the top schools like Vandy. And while you can craft your audition package to showcase yourself in the best possible light if you’re a potential MT major, it’s such a subjective acceptance process that the bulk of it is totally out of your control.
Ugh. I get hives just thinking about it.
UArts accepts 8% of MT applicants.
