Does anyone know how many students are invited to audition? Last time I heard it was 200, but I’m just wondering how they could possibly fit that many into a single audition day…
I would like to know as well.
12 more days!!!
If anyone comes back to look at this next time around, when we were there yesterday they said they had about 450 applications and invited about 200 to audition (another 40 for tech interviews). A few sent videos, but they had about 100 in each of the morning and afternoon sessions. They look for a class of 24-30 and will accept about 60 to get that number.
when will they be notifying people and how?
@preppytheatre we were told in the parents meeting they notify about 2 weeks or so after the auditions. Everyone that was invited has already been academically accepted to the school, so 3 letters will go out, Congrats you are in the theatre program, congrats you are on the waitlist or congrats you are in the college, but not accepted into the theatre program. We are kind of circling the 10th, or week of the 13th.
And for future auditioners, there were two sessions for audition, the morning session reported from 8-8:30am and the afternoon reported at 1:-1:30pm. Kids were divided into thirds and auditioned together in their groups. One group had dance, monologue, vocal. Another group had vocal dance monologue. Another group had monologue, vocal, dance. There was an accompanist. Some kids were asked to do 2 monologues some were not. Some kids were asked to do 2 songs, some were not. Start with your best. Dance was tap optional with a ballet component and a jazz/? component. All people who made it to audition are going to be accepted into the college as they have passed academic admissions. We were told decisions would be mailed March 7th.
Last year the were notified on March 13th I believe from reading the boards. Good Luck to all.
Did anyone in the afternoon look at how many boys were there. My S estimated about 15 in morning session.
@MomofMTBoy my D was in the afternoon session - if I had to guess overall - it was maybe 25-30? It definitely didn’t appear by the kids walking in and out to be 1/2 and 1/2 - my estimate may even be a little high. How did your S like the process? My D loved it - funny how of all the reading we have done about auditions and all the different schools and what to expect, we (she) had NO idea she would be auditioning in front of 30 kids. She said it was really fun - I think she enjoyed this audition the most. The current MT students were very, very welcoming. I know my D would be thrilled to be accepted into Wagner!
My son loved the unique audition process too (although he was the only boy in his group of 30). Glad we don’t wait long for results.
After the audition on Sunday, Wagner jumped to #1 or #2 (between there and BoCo) on my son’s list. He loved the audition process, which was far better than Marymount’s (they also have kids audition in front of one another; two girls left the room in tears the day he auditioned). He also loved that there are opportunities outside of MT, such as service work and an education minor. As for the ratio, in the dance audition he said there were about four boys, and in the singing/acting, which was a smaller group, he was one of two. Enjoyed everyone he met, including the current students, who were very enthusiastic and helpful.
Good luck everyone!
I think that the idea of a BA program used to be appealing in the beginning of this process but we drank the kool aid and a BFA program just seems to offer so much more of what my S wants to do for the next 4 years. It says a lot about Wagner that they were able to get my S thinking that a BA program might still have some positives. @Augustinian looks like we will both be in this unfortunate waiting game until the bitter end as we too are waiting for BoCo (and NYU as well). Writing anything on the final decision thread for us seems to be an eternity away.
@MomofMTBoy after chatting with my D she said the boy estimate that I gave was way too high! What do I know! She said there were 4 in her group total. Hope we all hear some good news next week!
@LBSMOM Wagner must have been scratching their heads at how few boys made their cut this year. So basically, I’m guessing the girls in MT this year are waaaay smarter than the boys in MT. The invitation cut was purely academic and resume based, right? So the girls are smarter, and have to be waaaay better singers, dancers and actors to get into any program due to the higher competition, and they do it wearing heels. I am by no means denigrating the talent of the boys, and we’ve seen/heard some amazingly talented boys this year, but it must be said, being a boy this year at Wagner is a good thing for sure. Even with the better odds, I am going as crazy as the rest of you with this crazy month of waiting. Follow up question from a now obsessed mom: Was it 4 in her group of 100 or 4 in the group of 30. My S was the only ONLY boy in his vocal section and there were a few more as they moved through dance and monologues, but my S thinks 25 out of 100 is a huge over estimate, more like 10-15.
@MomofMTBoy 4 in her group of 30 but then only 1 in vocals. Your odds look good! I think your sons estimate is probably more accurate! My D isn’t getting too bogged down about BFA or BA. She is really going on how she feels on campus. We only did 7 schools. Visited them all then went back for auditions. It was interesting to see how second impressions juggled her schools as far as favorites!
DS was in the Sunday afternoon session and he just got a call saying he’s in. Waiting on a few other places, but he’s excited!
@Cloudshine he got accepted? Congrats!
He did! Thank you!
@Cloudshine congrats to your son. My D must have been in his group because their chat said he was called. Many more girls that afternoon! Fingers crossed we hear good news!
