Off campus housing Vs on campus housing

I found a place with a 15 minute drive from FIU with rent 620 a month for a grand total of around 6000 for 2 semesters everything including utilities is covered (internet light water)

Would that be financially cheaper than living on campus at FIU for the 2 semesters ( i would have to take about 2-3k in loans) since the price of living on fiu campus is 8000+ for 2 semesters

In the end, probably not cheaper. Do you have to sign a 12 month lease for the off campus unit? If so, there goes your savings.

It IS cheaper for my daughter to live off campus but that’s because of the meal plan. If she lives on campus, it’s a minimum $1700/sem for meal plan. She also lives right next to the freshman housing complex, so can walk or catch a shuttle to class. No transportation costs (and no car for her).

No i dont have to sign a 12 month lease its how ever long i need the place

Then you just have to add up all your costs for off campus and on campus and compare. It is more convenient to live on campus. Just because off campus is $6000 and on is $8000 doesn’t mean on campus will be more expensive. You have car expenses, time to commute, finding parking. It is convenient to go back to your dorm during the day to study, nap, change clothes and more difficult to do those things if you are off campus.
