Can anyone recommend apartment complexes within a half mile of FSU for the fall? There are so many and a lot of the reviews are not good. The posts in the forum are outdated. If anyone can recommend decent places, not the cheapest or the luxury apartments, but decent in a good neighborhood. Also, places to avoid would be helpful.
Are you looking for a more dorm-like experience, such as SouthGate, or are you looking for a regular apartment?
Advice: Avoid anything north of Tennessee Street and east of Woodward Avenue that’s near campus. There are a number of complexes but the neighborhood is not the best. Also avoid Campus Walk as I know multiple people that have lived there and NONE of them will say anything positive except that management changed. Campus Circle is just off Tennessee on what becomes Stadium and isn’t too bad, though it has just changed management (and is now called North by Northwest), so its status is still a bit up in the air.
There are a ton of options along Call Street, including (but not limited to) Whitehall Apartments, Seminole Flatts, Seminole Trails (I think), Colony Club, Oscela Lofts, really the list goes on, and that’s just one street/area. You might also be able to find some rentals from Student Housing Solutions (though I recomment you avoid them), Jackson Properties (they have a few nice properties close to campus), etc.
The reviews for a lot of them aren’t good because a lot of them have, to be nice, terrible management that don’t care because they know they’re renting to students and they can get away with whatever they want.
It just really depends on what you want. If you’re looking for a 1 bed/1 bath apartment, you’ll be paying a good bit of money for a lot of places. If you’re cool with a 1 bed/1 bath room in a 4 bed/4 bath apartment, the cost will go down but you’ll have roommates to deal with.
Glad to help. If you have any other housing-related questions come up, feel free to send me a private message. While I graduated from FSU a couple years ago, I still live and work in Tallahassee and am always glad to help people find a good place to live.
I am looking for feedback about Southgate. My son will be attending TCC in the Fall and we are considering Southgate because it’s proximity to campus and we liked the meal plan and activities they provide. Just not sure if an apartment would be better. Any advice would be appreciated.
It’s my understanding that Southgate is only for FSU students, so if your son is attending TCC only, he wouldn’t be eligible to live there. Your best bet would be to contact them to verify that. Southgate really isn’t all that close to TCC, either (it’s across the street from FSU, and a few miles from TCC).
