Off-the-books Job

Would it be advisable to list an off-the-books (ie. tax-free and therefore illegal) part-time job on a college application? I feel like it definitely would, but I was hoping to get a definite answer.

Colleges aren’t IRS agents or will see if you filed taxes. If you washed dishes or worked at a relative’s business, say so. It’s not a big deal.

Sure. I sold t-shirts and tutored and put both on my resume. Certainly made enough T-shirt sales to qualify for tax evasion, but who cares. Makes me look interesting.

By the way, tax-free jobs aren’t exactly illegal. Depends on what you are doing and how much you made.
