Unfortunately, people don't search, and if they don't find this one, they'll just create another "official" 2008 QB thread.

Sorry to interrupt this debate about whether or not this thread is in the right place -- but could more Questbridge alumni talk about specific benefits / downsides of the program and what advice they have?

Yes, did the QuestBridge alumni find QuestBridge

QuestBridge Home Page

to be helpful, either for admission to a college of choice or for affordability at that college?

P.S. Thread mergers are the cure to multiplying threads, and there is warrant for having a thread on the Financial Aid Forum pertaining specifically to the financial aspects of QuestBridge, as contrasted with the National Match admission aspects of the program.

^^ from a viewer's POV, thread mergers are confusing and often make me and others want to stop posting in the thread, esp. when the topic gets too broad. This thread won't pertain much to "admissions," I guarantee it; it will be a thread in which all the current applicants are frantically comparing each others' awareness--"The page is updated!!!" and "Did anyone else get this notification??" and whatnot.

Since it won't be moved, constant bump s'il vous plait.

I received a letter from Questbridge as summer was ending and I thought, oh it's probably some commercial thing, so I placed it in the pile of college letters that I would read later. Anyways, I was going through my mail later on and when I opened it, I saw the deadline was so near, meaning I wouldn't have enough time to do the application. It was disheartening to not take advantage of this great opportunity. Therefore, I hope that this thread does remain in the public eye of CC so others can curiously click on the thread and read about it.

Ah well, guess we will just have to constantly bump it. I'll try to make sure it stays alive. :)

Agent of Sense: I think that's an ongoing problem with QuestBridge--many think it's just junk, or a scam. Fortunately, we have CC to try to change that perception. :)

Ask the hundred-some who got matched in its initial Match, then those who got in during RD (who were able to put down the distinction of QB Finalist) and see if THAT is a scam or not.

Blah, about the requirements of being a PR/Citizen:

So you can apply for the National College Match up, even if you're not a PR/Citizen, but only to Yale and Princeton? Or do you just get thrown in RD without them matching you up?

Blah, epic fail for me since I'll be getting my PR by the end of this year -.-

Do we have any idea how QuestBridge develops its mailing list for sending out invitations to its programs?

I'd love to know that, too. We qualify on the financial criteria, and my son's tenth-grade PSAT score is certainly in that range, though he's barely clinging to the top 20% in his competitive high school.

I'd never heard of this until I started lurking on cc ...

Oh, and thanks, tokenadult, for leaving this thread here!

Well you don't need to be invited. Maybe advertising at schools in low-income neighborhoods?

Correct--only some partner colleges have agreed to allow a match with an non-resident.

I know part of it is through the past students--they ask for emails, etc. for other potential students. In addition, if you did one of the programs, they contact your recommenders.

I daresay they use the PSAT for addresses and such--some students who aren't even remotely low-income get invitations.

I want to apply to a number of colleges through QuestBridge. However, the application needs to be done by late September. I still have to take 2 SAT Subject Tests and I want to take the SAT (even though I already took the ACT). I am set to take these tests in October and November.
Does this mean I can't apply through QuestBridge??!! Can I tell them that I'll take these tests and send the results to the colleges even though I won't have them by the application due date?

Please help!!!

I think the PSAT is the prime mover. Then the financial cut-off. I attend a very poor school (95% below poverty level) but I was the only one to get an invitation from Questbridge and I was the only one to do well on the PSAT.

Perhaps we should refrain from regarding the letters as invitations because it may discourage those who do a quick read of these posts and may turn away assuming participation is only through invitation.

I did the April QB thing and will do QB my senior year...anyone else?

If you were one of the winners of the College Prep Scholarship, you can more or less be sure that you'll make it to finalist status in the National College Match.

I think you can take the October test, once your named as a finalist you can update your profile. However, your chances might be lower seeing as you haven't taken the SAT 2's.

I've taken one and I got a 720. Does that change anything?
