*Official 2011 RD Decisions Thread*

Denied - I dont like the term "rejected"

rejected!! NICE! Stanford was a reach, obviously. Got into one of my reaches though, Brown! Have fun to those who got accepted! Stanford is awesome! (maybe I can work harder next time around for grad school? haha)

Dear _________

I write to notify you that we are, regrettably, unable to offer you admission to Stanford University for fall 2007. I appreciate the thought and effort you put into your application and into selecting Stanford as one of your college choices. The overall strength of our applicant pool and relatively small size of our freshman class means that we disappoint the majority of our applicants each year. I am personally sorry to share this disappointment with you.

More detailed information about our decision, as well as the answers to the most commonly asked questions about the admission process at Stanford, will be enclosed in the letter you will receive in the coming days.

With all best wishes to you for a very bright future,

Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

i got waitlisted. does anyone know how this works?

Rejected. Congrats to everyone who is in! I'm sure some of you will have an awesome time in Palo Alto!

Decision: Waitlisted

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2250 CR: 750 M: 740 W: 760
[] SAT IIs: MathIIC: 770 Chem:720 French:560
[] GPA: 3.86 UW
[] Rank: top 10% (school doesn't rank)
[] AP/IB scores: Chem (4) (school doesn't offer AP classes, but people take the tests anyway)
[] Courseload: Advanced Chemisty, Modern Physics, BC Calculus, Microbes and Disease, Senior English Electives, Modern History, Japanese 2, French 4
[li] Other stats: two year-long research projects, one in history and one in physics
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Not my best work, but still good. They were the last ones I did, so I was pretty much sick of writing essays. But I'm a good writer, so they were still decent.
[] Recommendations: Should have been excellent. My research advisors wrote them.
[li] Hook (if any): research
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: competitive math/science public
[] Ethnicity: Asian/White
[] Gender: female
[] Major strength/weakness: I don't test well; I've never paid attention to what would "look good" for universities. I do what I like to do.
[/ul]Other Factors:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars: a cappella choir (president), Asian Cultures Club (board member), Mu Alpha Theta, yearbook, tutoring (math, chem, phys, writing)
[] Summer Activities: Operation Catapult (engineering at RHIT), Summer Tutoring, IMSA Orientation Guide,
[] Why I think I was accepted/denied: I didn't do a mentorship, because I preferred to design my own research projects. My test scores are on the low side for Stanford. I don't have any awards other than National Merit Finalist. Oh, and I wasn't more than moderately interested in their decision, and it probably showed.
[] Other thoughts: I won't be accepting the place on the waitlist, as I'm going to Caltech. Once I got my Caltech decision, I had no intention of going to Stanford anymore, so they made the right call.
[] Favorite dessert: chocolate souffle Mmmmmm

Rejected... I'm quite depressed right now. :( congrats to everyone who got in!

Rejected :P

wow this really sucks
a bunch of people on CC are rejected

Rejected. W00T!

Forgot to say congrats to all the acceptees, and good luck to all those who are accepting places on the waitlist.

To everyone who was denied, don't lose heart. With over 3,000 schools in the US, you'll get in somewhere where you can be happy.

accepted!
but with a rather horrible financial aid estimate.
i might just choose dartmouth over stanford instead....

sigh. bad news with the good. pooey.

how did you get financial aid package?

well, i talked to the dean and i got a rough estimate of my financial aid package, which wasn't enough. oh well :) atleast i can tell my grand kids i got in, right?
