Kristina,
I sympathize.
I just got rejected from all the Ivies.

but it looks like your stats are ivy-calibre, so Amherst might well be practising the Tufts Syndrome. They do have a huge defection rate for Ivies at schools like this.

Seriously, I was rejected as well...my stats were ok, but I included a stellar DVD and stuff about my life...I also had the head of the alumni write me a letter of rec...I seriously did everything I could to get in, but it wasnt good enough. O well, UCLA here we come. Best of luck to all that got in! I know you will love it!

Wait-listed

[]Teacher Recs: I'd imagine very positive, though I haven't read them
[]Counselor Rec: same as above
[]Supplementary Material: (research abstracts, music recordings, art slides) I sent in a violin recording, as well as the abstract of a research project I did on Saturn that won 4th place at ISEF
[]Hook: (recruited athlete, cured cancer- only major ones that actually would have made a difference, please)[/ul]
Personal
[ul][]Location: California

Decision: Waitlisted

[ul]
[]Stats:
[] SAT: 2180/1420;V: 760/M: 660/W:760
[] SAT IIs: Biology: 690; Literature: 780; U.S. History: 790
[] ACT:
[] GPA: 4.0 UW; 4.33W --> (midyear) 4.47W
[] Rank: 3/719 --> (midyear) 2/691
[] Other stats: National Merit Finalist, I.B. Diploma Candidate, AP Scholar
[]Subjective:
[] Extra Curriculars: Mock Trial (4 yrs), Cross Country (2 yrs), Academic Decathlon (2 yrs), Liberty in North Korea (2 yrs), Big Brothers/Big Sisters (2 yrs), Peer Tutoring (2 yrs)
[] Essays: fairly good I thought
[] Teacher Recs: from my IB HL English and History teachers; saw my English teacher's and thought it was pretty good
[] Counselor Rec: my I.B. coordinator and has known me since I was a freshman; thought it was amazing
[] Hook (if any):
[] Location/Person:
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Filipino
[] Gender: Female
[] Major strength(s)/weakness(es): rigor of courseload with my IB and AP classes; not enough leadership in activities
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: I think I had strong stats and a solid essay and recs which is why I didn't get out-right rejected; But I had a decent SAT score and extra-currics and with such a competitive applicant pool, it makes sense that I'd be deferred
[] Other Factors:
[] Going to attend? Not going to stay on the waiting list. They accept an average of 22 and there are 900 people on the waitlist. Plus, I've realized I don't want an expensive small private school so I'm going to the University of Pittsburgh which I LOVED when I visited.
[/ul]
