**Official** 2012 USNCO Chemistry Olympiad Discussion

Luckily school exams end May 31st! I imagine that since they are only allowed a two week camp, and since the international olympiad begins on 6/21, they’ve put the camp in the latest slot possible.

Are you sure that you can make it to study camp–what do you think the cutoff score will be?

The 44th IChO starts on July 21, not June 21 according to the ACS website. They clearly have enough time. Why would they pick that date???

I’m not sure I can make it to the study camp, but I’d be thrilled if I did. Don’t know the cutoff. Look at some old threads here, it might be there somewhere.

Yes–looking back now, I did misread the date! I guess I thought that the schedule was supposed to make more sense than it does? As for other reasons, I have a feeling that many of the study campers probably will be interested in/involved with summer camps, many of which begin around 6/24. But that may just be an irrelevant coincidence…

Mine’s next Wednesday, Pi Day, and the same day MIT admissions come out. I will probably check my e-mail after I fail the NaChO. (Yes, it’s pronounced like the thing you eat with cheese.) I took AP Chem last year, and I haven’t looked at it since. I should get on that.

Took it yesterday… so relieved. I’m hoping for a perfect score. USNCO has kinda gotten away from repeating old problems, which is good for the competition :)

I qualified for the national!!! Missed two points.

Barley, did you receive a phone call? How do u know ur scores?

Yeah, phone call. The coordinator emailed my teacher, who then emailed me.

When can we begin creating a compiled list of answers? I’m down if anyone wants to pm me some questions or something.

I don’t think you guys realize how easy it is for someone to claim “I did it! Give me proof and I’ll discuss” to multiple users and thus gather enough info to get everything. PLEASE wait until the contest is over to discuss!

@above post: posts like those are impossible to verify for truth that you’ve actually taken the exam (obviously I’m not accusing you). Even if someone has proof, it is impossible to verify that they didn’t get it by doing what I mentioned above.

Again, just wait until April!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh when do we get results back ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Took it today! Didn’t qualify, but it was a good experience…

btw, how many questions are your tests? o.O I thought it’d be 60, but we had 90… Our cutoff was in the mid 60’s…

Mine was out of 60.

Do our sponsors get notified about scores on Monday?

Does anyone know the cutoff for southern california?

^ I think cutoff is determined by each “local” area, there is no across the board cutoff.

In regards to exams with more than 60 questions, these are added in probably more competitive areas. There is only one “official” local/open exam and those answers will be posted on the ACS website after 4/1.

The exam closes on 3/31.

Some local coordinators will release scores prior to that date, but they do not have to.

What was the cutoff for your regions? Post plz ;d

I placed first with 58/60. Cutoff was 48/60.

Cutoff in my region was 49/60. I placed first, also with 58/60.

Hello,

How long did you wait for your score after taking the test?

I took it March 3, and got my score on March 12. I was surprised. It was a lot faster than I had expected.

I think that the scores were reported only to the people who made it. The rest of the scores might be released near the end of March.
