Hi all! This will be the official topic where we discuss the 2012 USNCO Regional round. Remember not to openly discuss it, since the window is still up, but after the window is over we can talk about it.
Anyway, I took the test today. PM me for discussion!

this isn’t the official thread. there is already one in the SAT/ACT >>> AP >>> Sciences forum.

I dont see the Olympiad thread, only the AP thread. This is different than the AP thread.

Oh, you’re right; sorry. I seem to have mistaken the USABO thread for USNCO.

I’m participating My regional is on the 17th. :)

You don’t have the authority to create an “official” thread for that test (just saying).

Taking tomorrow…scoring 50-55 on old tests. Cutoff for my section in the last 2 years was 56 and 53 so I’m pretty nervous! Wish me luck!

LOL. My area’s cut off is 38. I know, super low, right? Of course, I got a lot more than that and am already qualified for nat.

This could possibly be a dumb question, but… How do you guys know the cutoffs?

Just took the exam; it was a little bit more difficult than usual but ok considering I tried to re-study all of AP chem in like 2 days. I wrote down my answers so pm me with proof if anyome wants to discuss.

Gah cutoff for NY is usually 50+, which means I might have barely made it.

Oh great… Lol. I’m from NY too… I’m in upstate NY though… My regional is in albany.

Yeah guys just a reminder the test window is till the end of march so PLEASE don’t discuss in public! Pm’s are fine

be aware though that there are some who can gleen enough info from another CCer in order to provide “proof” they took the exam and then they gather all of the correct answers. it has definitely happened with the usabo.

I took the test yesterday and wrote down all my answers. PM me to discuss

I know because my Chemistry teacher is close with my state’s NCO coordinator.

very true. I’d suggest waiting until after the exam period is over to discuss answers online even through PM’s since you never know who exactly you’re talking to. this doesn’t affect me but I’m the people who are taking the local exam later won’t like it

I have a slightly unrelated question. When I was practicing for the Chem Olympiad test, I did some past tests on the official website. They only went up to 60, but the test I took went up to 70. Does anyone know why this is so? Are the last 10 questions “experimental”?

I’d say that’s likely because I know the 60 question test shared at least one question with yours. The last 10 questions are probably experimental (or at least a few of them are). Maybe that’s how they verify that new types of questions are ok to ask…

Or, that test is specific to your section and just happens to share that particular question.

So like, the guy that registers schools from my district was very bad at getting back to my chem teacher, and last week was saying that he needed to wait until the end of the week at which point there would be something to sign students up online with… but now it is after feb 29th, and i’m not yet registered… do you think they will allow me to register now even though it is march because of the miscommunication error on behalf of the coordinator?

It’s their fault. They’ll sort it out and probably let you register.

The study camp runs from June 5-20. This conflicts with a lot of final exams. Why do you think they would pick such an inconvenient date? How will everyone deal with this?
