@BeanDelphiki What books have you studied for USABO and how long have you been studying?

Campbell for Semis, Campbell+Raven+RavenPlants for Finals. I’d read bits and pieces of Voet’s biochem before semis last year though.

@BeanDelphiki So you only used Campbell to study for the semifinal test and that was enough?

Maybe they thought that since everyone on the US team got gold last year at IBO that they should make semis harder this year, to be even more “selective” ;)

I was fine on part C probably because I spent a lot of time on the third question’s material. I actually had a similar case study done in one of my classes.

I can’t believe it. I just looked at the semifinal discussion from last year, and I found out that USABO Semi final exam last year had an very similar question to FRQ #3 from this year. Anyone else think that this is extremely unfair to people who didn’t take the exam last year? All the people from last year were basically handed a free question this year.

Actually on last year’s semifinal C you had to compare worms from different phyla.

No, not that. Look at the discussion last year. and, look at the messages towards the end of march and early april, and you will see a close resemblance to this year’s question. If you still cant find it, let me know, and i will tell you what i am referring to in a message (after we both prove to each other that we both took the exam).

Last year’s semifinal C was basically copying the hormone table from Campbell chapter 45 (I think?). This was actually different, imo - more analysis, diagnosis.

This year’s hormone C was a little bit too much.

I mean. I got the entire answer because I spent a lot of time on hormones. But, i mean, it would be pretty to simple for someone who took last year’s exams to just remember that this was all caused by a malfunction (I know the term, but I don’t want to disclose it) in the ******** *********. Do you get what I am saying?

And, btw, when you guys say you did bad, does that mean that you guys got like 2/20 or like 10/20 because that is a huge difference.

18/20

19.5/20

Are you guys serious? Because, that means that with a 70 percent on the other parts you would get a 183. Good luck in the finals! lol

yes 100% serious. anything below a 19.6 is a fail for me…and…well…

hahahahahahaha

Has everyone taken the test at this point?

i dont know. but, we can talk about the test if you want. message me

yes. everybody finished the test. we can talk about it 100% openly now. feel free to discuss section C in great detail. that and section A & B please and thank you
