@botherme - It’ll undoubtedly help your chances, but is in no way a guarantee. Me and a MOP-Green guy from my area got rejected in favor of two ISEF people, for example. If you have this plus some legit scifair experience though (and you aren’t from California/New Jersey/other absurdly competitive states), you have a decent shot imo. But it’s probably a question for the RSI thread(s).

wait, so the state that you’re applying from affects it? So if I’m applying from indiana, would mine be higher or lower?
Last question (I promise)-- how good were these ISEF guys?

I think if your applying from Indiana your chances would be pretty good, since they usually take exactly one person per state. I also think that RSI actually cares a lot about the essays that you write, besides contests and stuff. I applied this year from Washington, and I got placed as an alternate even though I hadn’t done any science fairs or contests at all, and my PSAT was also really low, and I hadn’t taken any SAT II at all, but then I heard that they have like 20 alternates besides the people they admit into camp.

I was wondering for the semifinal results, will there be a histogram released like there is for the open? (not sure if this is a dumb question or not XD It is my first time, so if it is, please cut me some slack )

I think they release everything, histogram and list of finalists included, on wednesday

Ok, thanks!

yeah, rupnok showed us the 2013 histogram last year also

So I’m assuming they’re done with the notifications?

I am hoping not, but it’s a good assumption to make that all the emails have been sent out.

Well, if they only sent initial emails to strictly top 20 and some people can’t go, they might send a couple more before wednesday!

lol, I guess everyone is so tense about wednesday that no one feels like talking anymore

if we do make finals, how are we supposed to prep for it?

@wanahakalugi
I heard that the Finals is much more laboratory-based than either the open or the semifinals.
But other than that, I don’t think you could prepare much, since I also heard that the testmakers literally make the test the night before the administration

ok… If i have time, I’ll probably read raven’s and alberts since i’ve just used campbell reece and wikipedia until now

Half of my total knowledge in life probably comes from wikipedia…

sounds like a good estimation for me too…

just hours left now eeeeep

I really want to see what the top score on that test was…
(my math teacher told me that a good test was one where after you take it, you feel like you were hit by a truck. that usabo semi was a pretty darn good test)

Has anybody on the east coast gotten their scores yet?

I’m sorta east, and nope. But I think they post a list anyways
