Official Act Math Thread June 2013

I remember the flashing light question asked after how many seconds would both of the lights flash together. I do not remember reading at all about the time in between the 1st and the 2nd flash. I answered 56 seconds.

The flashing light question I think asked how much time would elapse between the first and second flashes. The walnut one was 84000, the number of walnuts.

The answer to the flashing lights was 28. They were asking for the interval time. Not the total time for two flashes of light.

What about the ratio with the sports? Was it 9 to 5?

they asked for the time elapsed which i believe is the total time. the wording was confusing

i put 9 to 5 for the sports one

I put 5:9 for the sports one, since it asked for the ratio between the sport not as popular to the one more popular

I got that too. The ratio had to be in the same order as the question.

Yes. 5:9 as well.

Wasn’t there another ratio for a different question? Like 12:5 or something?

Yes, there was one that asked for the ratio of the area of the square to the parallelogram I think. It was 5:12.

For the flashing light question, one light flashed every 4 seconds and the other every 14 seconds. I got 28.

@BTN2013: I agree with that. ^

Hold on, I don’t remember the wording of the questions of 9:5 or 5:9 one.

Did it really ask for the not popular to the popular one? I thought it just said find the ratio of the athletics to soccer or something like that. I never read anything about which is more popular.

This is scaring me cause I’ve always gotten 36’s on math but if this one proves to be another mistake, I’ll already have missed 2. :’(

^ yeah i read it as athletics to soccer im pretty sure. i don’t remember the popularity part. I think the problem said that the venn diagram represents the popularity of the sports itself.

I still think it was just athletics to soccer

The question didn’t directly state that one of the sports was more popular, however, basing it off the venn diagram and the order that they listed the two individual sports, you’d have to parallel that with your answer, so it’d have to be 5:9.

What exactly was the question? Wasn’t it just “what is the ratio of athletics to soccer”?

I can’t remember the question :/

I agree johnkim

I’m fairly sure that it was just asking for the ratio of athletics to the ratio of soccer.

Was #60 8m? It stated that 2^(n+1)=2m It was asking what did 2^(n+3)= in terms of m? Pretty sure it was 8m, but there’s always people who get different answers. Any1 else get 8m?

I am pretty sure it was 8m. I plugged in numbers and got that. Double checked it too.
