Official Act Math Thread June 2013

^ that is correct

wait so it was 252, not 240? weren’t there only 40 posts x 6 planks?

Nah it was like 3048 dimensions. You had a side of 48, 30, and 48. Every 6 ft, there were 12 planks. So add those up and get 126 ft and divide by 6 to get 21. 2112 =252

For an early problem i was stumped. Remember the one that said a rectangle and a square have the same area. The rectangle’s width is 2 and its perimeter is 32. What is the square’s length.

I thought that the rectangle’s length would be 14 so the perimeter is 32. Then 14*2 (area) is 28. Therefore, the side of the square would be square root of 28, but there was no answer like square root of 28. Someone help.

@ketann, the length of the rectangle was 5 more than the width (or something like that). You needed to take that into account. The rectangles length wasn’t 14.

What was the answer to the rectangle area = square area?

No, I think you’re referring to another question; that one was easy. But I think i’m accurate in the question I posted. I’m not sure though.

Anyone remember the question?

" Remember the one that said a rectangle and a square have the same area."

You literally asked this question.

Does anyone remember the answer to this one?

What about the ab one? It was like it can only be factored by: 1, a, ab, etc. I don’t remember it

What is the answer of Q26?
It is about a list of number that multiply by 4/3, then divide by 6, and divide by a number to get the same number.

I don’t understand what the question ask for

Reply to #309
I chose 1, every number can be divided by 1 except 0

@stupidboy

I believe the answer was multiply by 8. I didn’t know how to solve it so I plugged and chugged and I got 8.

Can anyone please describe the question a little bit more?

I got 1 too, but zero can also be divided by 1: you get zero. Zero divided by zero is undefined.

Just thought you’d like to know.

Here are the answers I got

@ketann: That one was a square with side length of 8 because 2*32 = 64 and s^2=64 so s=8

@mmourkous: yeah I also got 1

@stupidboy: I got 8 also

The question asked for: if a person multiplied a set of numbers by 4/3 and then divided it by 1/6, what number is he functionally multiplying the entire set by?

I think it was 2/9

The rectangle and square question said something along the lines of the rectangle had 5 more inches on the length than the square but had the same area. They wanted you to find out what was X. It was an easy plug and chug question.

12.5 was the answer

Could someone say the question?

the one thats answer was 1, i thought it was (3/4) it asked for what number can you mulitple 4/3 by and then divide by 6: i chose 3/4
am i thinking about a diff one?
