@thelinah I asked my teacher that very question, (I hate balancing redox eqs) and he said most likely not. I would familiarize yourself with the basics on how to balance them just because of the off given chance they do ask you to, but he said they generally wouldn’t ask for something that complicated on the MS and the only place you could see a question like that would probably be the long FRs and they would most likely focus more on equilibrium/acids and bases.
I’m lowkey freaking out though- this is by far the hardest AP exam I’ve ever had to take- and of course it’s on the very first day! I just know that titration curves and equilibrium will be the death of me, as well as delta G/delta S… but hoping I can manage a 3! Good luck everyone!
Do you guys think going over the 2014 exam will be enough to prepare for the new multiple choice? Will they be similar, only a few tweaks in the numbers and stuff? I feel like they’re going to be different since collegeboard released it. Are all the chem topics covered in the 2014 exam, or should I look out for a few they were saving for this year. I’m just really nervous because ive only prepared with this exam and I really want a 5. And same thing for 2014 frq, will they most likely be similar? Should I practice with other years??? I thought the frq changed? And one least question (sorry), can there still be equation writing questions on the frq like past years? Thnx so much in advance.
@JuicyMango There’s definitely no equation writing FRQ but have a general idea of how to because it might be included in other questions as small parts (no more than a point or 2). I would practice more FRQs than just the 2014, excluding question 4 though. The FRQ doesn’t seem to have changed much in my opinion
Juicy Mango, I think that would be helpful and the curriculum has not changed this year so it should be good if you are strong on the 2014 exam. The FRQ format for 2014 should be similar to this year but you should look at ones from the last 3-4 years as well anyways. There won’t be any strictly equation writing ones but there could be a sub-part to a long FRQ where you have to do the net-ionic equation. Also, how did you get the 2014 exam?
@APScholar18
When a metal, in its solid state, oxidizes, it will go into solution as its cation (much like the anode of a voltaic cell). You don’t want the train car to wear away or to contaminate the HCl solution, so you want the metal with the lowest oxidation potential.
@stemscholar: Thanks, I’ll probably practice 2010 and onwards frqs. @QasimHassan123: Thank you, I really do hope the tests are similar. I got the 2014 exam from my teacher.
My first AP, I am taking chemistry as a sophomore with no prior chemistry classes. However, in all the practice tests (2002, 2008, Official Practice Test, 2013, 2014) I have gotten a 5. Hope I can do well tomorrow!!!
I asked this before, but my paranoia is growing as we get closer to the test…
On the Barron book, it specifically says to draw all electrons when drawing a lewis structure, however the princeton review says nothing about this, and replaces the bonding electrons with lines.
what to do…
