@schoolisfunforme I don’t think risk taking is really needed much and I think a whole paragraph to that is a bit much, but it’s your choice and every writer knows what works for them, so if that’s what works for you, you know what’s best. I think it’s important to develop your “voice” so they’re not reading just a boring essay. Use powerful diction like in your rhetorical analysis for example “___ masters the use of ___” etc and get your own tone in there.
@collegepanda96 Well what do you mean? Not to use it as an example of the author’s appeals or to use it yourself in the essay?
You definitely want to sound credible and logical in your RA, forgive me if I misunderstood.
The essays are going to be quite easy. I am more worried about the multiple choice section of this exam. Anyone else feel the same way? Curious to see.
Sorry if this has been discussed already but do you guys recommend paraphrasing the sources or integrating direct quotes? My teacher told us to do the latter… but then again, we should’t really trust what she says…
@Bronchaolic9 As one of the examples of the author’s use of devices.
You should be paraphrasing the sources instead of just quoting the author. @akgtdoskce
Does anyone have a mc mock link?
@akgtdoskce I would use quotes actually, they like to see those in there and when they’re reading fast that’s something they look for from what I hear. Do a little of both, but quotes are a good thing in my opinion.
@CollegePanda96 I was told you can refer to logos, ethos, and pathos, but mostly highlight specific devices. For example, one of your points could be vivid or descriptive imagery and you can talk about how the imagery is used to evoke pathos.
LOGOS ETHOS AND PATHOS standalone are NOT rhetorical devices. They are part of the author’s PURPOSE, so use them in analysis. You need actual rhetoric devices as your examples (which includes a lot of writing features). Make your pick.
why is this thread so quiet compared to ap calc and physics.??? that one was basically exploding and this one is like… cricket sound
@hooi98 Maybe most of us are trying to google ways to do well on certain parts of the exam last minute. xD
The problem is the lack of content in this class. Not much left to do. Maybe do a term quiz or something like what is “conceit” or whatev. Oh well. Just go in tomorrow and do your best
is the persuasive essay anything like the typical sat essay? we didn’t get to go over those at all :-S
Hey, good luck to all of you tomorrow!
what the frack?! there’s a persuasive essay?! don’t u mean argumentative essay ?
btw… what would this get me
50% on mult choice and
7/7/7 on my essays?
@hooi98 i think that’s borderline 4/5 maybe a little closer to a 4, but it depends on what the exact curve is tomorrow.
@hooi98 …right, argumentative. wow. tomorrow’s gonna be fun.
yeah appass gives a 4 for both curves it has
Still worried about this I generally (on other tests do great on the mc’s and bad on the essays) but for whatever reason the mc is really giving me trouble here still in the low 30’s on the night before
Essays I feel are ok, Most worried about rhetorical think I can do the other two just fine
I agree with you @Sethm2015. The essays should be fine, but the MC is really pissing me off. I don’t know why, but I keep messing up on them. Too bad they’re not as easy as the SAT Critical Reading section
